Why, oh why does Google not let users turn off automatic updates?
The last Chromecast update is pretty horrible and is actively crashing my television.
The Chromecast Ultra I have is for my retired parents in their 70's. They barely know how to work the YouTube app, touching the fake TikTok stuff that shows up in their feed. This is before the recent YouTube update that added 3x more advertisements. Forced my hand into upgrading into Premium, which still gets popups about features and YouTube Music confusing my elderly parents.
Anyway, I know the Chromecast updated on its own because the UI is slightly different and now it can be controlled with the TV remote as opposed to being controlled by the casting device only. TV was purchased in late 2019. Worked fine daily throughout the pandemic up until the last auto-update. Now every time the TV is turned on, it locks up, then reboots. Sometimes, it just turns off in the middle of a video as I've noticed the Chromecast Ultra itself gets hotter than it used to, which was already very hot.
Google engineers, piss off. Seriously. It's already hell blocking Android updates on my work-critical devices, now you're actively crashing a freaking display device. I've already blocked access to DNS Google servers but the devices keep circumventing my explicit network rules. At this point, Google software is malware.

Hey there FluffyKitten,
I apologize about the late response on this issue, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that crashing problem? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I know I would also be upset if that kept happening. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:
I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!
Best regards,
