Multiple chromecasts I can’t set up

I’m a traveling medical professional who works assignments for 13 weeks (or longer) at each location.  I have had to buy new chromecast devices for each location because once I program them for a certain WiFi, I can’t get them to work at the next stop.  Now, I’m not traveling anymore and want them to work.  I have a collection that simply are not found during setup and would love tips!

thank you!

Hi TravelingSarah,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry you're having difficulties adding the Chromecast to the Google Home app and that the devices aren't showing up. Help’s here!

To better assist you, I’d like to ask the following:

As you’ve mentioned, you've collected devices previously connected to other Wi-Fi networks and are now unable to connect them to the app at your current location. To better investigate this situation, please confirm if you performed a factory reset on these devices before setting them up to the Google Home app. Additionally, have you updated your current home address in the Google Home app? If not, please follow these steps:

  • Make sure you have the latest versions of the Google Home app and your mobile device's operating system.
  • Ensure the Chromecast device, the TV, and the router are within 15 to 20 feet of each other.
  • Update your router's firmware, if needed. Sometimes routers have bugs, and there are firmware fixes to address them. Make sure your router is running the most updated software.
  • Update your new home structure for your current home location. For reference, you can check out this article: Change your home and work locations in the Google Home app. If these don’t work, try creating a new home structure
  • Perform a factory reset on your Chromecast device. Refer to this article for instructions: How to factory reset your Chromecast. And set up your Chromecast devices again through the Google Home app.

Additionally, you can check out this article for more troubleshooting steps: Troubleshoot an Issue.

Let me know how it works.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
