Since two or three days ago my 4 Gen 3s started to perform really bad. They show in the network, they play the photo wallpapers but none of the usual aplications can stream to any of the device.
Not even Google Home is able to control the devices. They show as connected but I cannot do anything with them except watching the wallpapers google sends to them.
Then after some time (hours) they start working again to stop working in the next day. Looks random.
Nothing changed in my home network. I have internet access. The only issue is that none of the applications are able to stream (Netflix, Max, Prime and Disney+ for example).
Google is doing everything possible to trash our Chromecasts.
Anyone with a similar problem?

Same problem here.
However it works when we cast from our pc, and it is very annoying

Have you both power cycled your full network , so modem, router, and Chromecasts? Do you live in highly congested areas with lots of different WiFi signals ?

I did everything you mentioned. I live in the countryside.
Following one of the answers in this thread I tried to cast from PC and from my Home assistant. Both work. None of the Android apps work. I am pretty sure Goggle did it again.

No Google didn't do anything to stop androids from casting. Okay , so your PC works but not your phone for casting , have you power cycled your phone, and made sure that it is on the exact same wifi network as your Chromecast and PC ? What type of phone , which version of android , and what exactly happens when you try to cast from your phone ?

I have power cycled my phone.
I have did the same with my network. Nothing changed in my network.
The 3 android phones we have in my house all suffer from the same issues.
As na example. I have a Nothing Phone 2 with Android 15. When casting from the phone the applications detect the Chromecast (I have 4 Gen 3), they connect to the device but casting is not possible.

When you say casting is not possible, don't leave anything out , what exactly happens ? Is there an error message ? What do you see on the tv?

One hugely important question I didn't ask.. are your phones using a VPN? And can you try to uninstall / reinstall Google play services , then reboot phone
04-19-2025 04:05 AM
No. I am not using a VPN.
04-19-2025 04:06 AM
Okay, then try to uninstall / reinstall Google play services , and reboot the phone.

Do you want me to reinstall the Google Play services in my three phones? I will do that when I find the time for it.

Well start with one phone for now , no sense doing it on all 3 until we know it will work. If you are busy now , just respond once you have had the chance
04-19-2025 04:13 AM
Will do that. Will report back.
I started a threat in Reddit before writing my situation here. It seems several people are feeling the same behavior since a couple of weeks ago.
This is fyi. I am not trying to pressure anyone. I don't use my Chromecasts for work. It is just annoying the erratic behavior.
Regards.

I am not leaving things out.
I receive no errors. As an example the Netflix Cast icon on the app shows the connecting animation forever. Didn't waited long enough for a timeout probably.
The TVs (I have 4) just continue to show the photo wallpapers.

We have the exact problem. It is displayed connected to the chromecast but there is nothing appearing on the tv, and the logo is just like "loading"
