New device setup application isn't connecting with my phone nor tablet for older chromecast

I'm trying to set up an older chromecast that I used to use - I've reset it, as the wifi network I used to use it on no longer exists.

I'm unable to set it up with the new device setup application that Home wants me to install, as I turn off my wifi (on my phone/chromebook) and then turn it back on and connect to the chromecast itself - it connects fine in my wifi settings, but the device setup application doesn't seem to connect to it (on my phone), or my chromebook doesn't move to the next stage.

Frustrating that I used to be able to set it up using a desktop computer, but doesn't seem to be an option anymore - how can I get this chromecast setup?

For reference, I'm using a fully up-to-date Pixel 6, as well as an up-to-date Acer CP713 chromebook

Retrying over and over, eventually worked, just frustrating that the old web method doesn't work

How did you get it to work?  I can't seem to get it.

I just kept trying over and over, eventually it connected and registered
