I keep getting no sound on my Chromecast with Google TV. I have to keep restarting it to get sound back working. Sound works on tv as I use it daily but as soon as I switch to Chromecast then the sound goes and I have to reboot Chromecast again. Is there a fix for this? It was working fine for over a year but only recently it's been happening. Tv is the same so no new hardware.

Hey folks,
Good news! Last week, we started rolling out an update for Chromecast with Google TV that should mitigate this behavior. Kindly observe your devices from time to time and give us a shout if you continue to experience it.
We appreciate everyone’s patience.
Best,
Kimy

Replying in hope that Google will see and fix the problem...
Im having the same issue than the others since about 1 week, never had this kind of problem before.
Rebooting only the Chromecast fix the problem... until I want to use it later the next day.
Plugged directly in my Hisense TV HDMI port, no other sound device. Nothing changed in my hardware configuration, and I didnt install new apps.

Any sound output that is out from the TV itself doesn't seem to work without a restart, whether it's the speakers, PCM, SPDIF, HDMI ARC or even a bluetooth speaker connected directly to the TV. However I did further testing and I connected a bluetooth speaker to the chromecast device itself and the audio was playing through it fine. I find that very strange. Somehow something in the latest update broke audio if its any output that is TV itself or any audio device connected to the TV.

Same problem here... No more audio till reboot. Happens when the tv hasn't been used for an hour or so... Very annoying

Same here as above. The last uodate has broken the audio via HDMI! If you just disconnect physically the HDMI from the TV while playing a video when you don't have sound a plug it back, you will get sound instantly.
Only hard or soft reset if CCwGTV or hard reset of HDMI port helps.
We need an update ASAP to fix this issue!

Hello everyone. Same issue here, my CC suddenly started going completely soundless.
It started with Youtube only, but then now moved over the whole set of apps.
At the beginning I could solve it terminating the app, now I have to restart the whole CC.
Is there a fix studied as we speak? Thanks all!

Google had better fix this garbage asap

I'm having an exact same issue. I can't keep rebooting the device like mad man. Google needs to sort this out.

And, nothing but crickets from Google as ususal. These forums are essentially useless. Just a place for people to vent about issues into the ether.

Here's my solution, and it has worked for a week now.
Order a new one.
Install it.
Put the old one in the box the new one came in.
Take it and the recipe back to where you bought the new one and get a refund telling them it's defective.
Maybe that will get Googles attention.
I used Amazon since their return policy is wide open.

What is the firmware on the new one? It could possibly still be the pre January update.
05-01-2023 06:12 PM
Better block the firmware updates from your router. I've tried swapping with other perfectly working CCs and there's something about this specific configuration.
05-01-2023 06:13 PM
I wonder if there is a way to force or sideload an older firmware version?

Hi folks,
Thanks for helping out here, @RXShorty.
We have found similar reports, and our team is currently investigating this. We will update this thread once we hear from them.
Thanks,
Kimy

I am also having this issue. I await your findings. Thank you!!

I have the same problem too

I am having the same issue. I have to fully restart the Chromecast every time my TV is turned back on. Doesn’t matter the app or the length of time. Randomly started yesterday (5/3/2023) and continuing today. No firmware or updates to install on either Chromecast or Fire TV.

Same issue here. 4k Chromecast to Philips tv. Looking forward to update

When will we get an update?
I'm getting the same error. Thanks

Thank you for providing feedback on this issue. I had just recently upgraded to the chromecast with Google TV and it appears my unit is also impacted. Looking forward to a fix instead of a refund.

Hello, is this issue resolved? When are we going to get the update that fixes this? I have the same no sound issue and have to restart my device every time.

Need some kind of answer here, or is this just a waste of time?

Same issue here on a Panasonic TV, no soundbar.
After my TV has been standby mode for a couple of hours, I get no sound from my Google TV. Neither from apps nor from navigating around in the menu system.
Hard resetting the Google TV fixes the issue.
A lot of comments on Reddit with the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/1336gic/no_sound_on_chromecast_w_google_tv/

Just to chime in here, also been having this problem the last few weeks. Toshiba TV with a soundbar connected through arc. Look forward to a solution.

When will this be fixed Google? It's been a couple of weeks now and still no fix or update on the issue! If it's so difficult let us roll back the last firmware, I've had to stop using the device as the family don't want to have to keep restarting every time they want to watch something, very frustrating! Luckily I have a firestick I can use.

Hey Kimy,
It seems you’ve been aware of this issue for at least two weeks now. Can we get an ETA on a patch? I’m seeing lots of good information in these comments that should be very helpful in identifying the issue.
05-18-2023 10:01 AM
So, Kimy, if this was reported weeks ago, is being investigated and it seems the common thread is that it occurred after the last firmware update, Why has a firmware patch not been released to correct this? My reason for choosing Chromecast is because of the great experience I have had with my Pixel phones and other Google devices and services.

Same problem here, hope that it will be fixed soon! It's been too long!
05-18-2023 06:53 PM
Any findings so far?
05-18-2023 07:33 PM
I'm still having this problem and there still aren't any software updates available. Please send me a new Chromecast.
05-19-2023 04:28 AM
i bought a new chromecast. same problem a week later....
05-18-2023 11:09 PM
Same problem, replying to get email updates.

Same problem here

WTF, 1 month already of "investigation". 👺 So big corp. like Google can't fix such a little problem? I can't believe. Its just 1-2 hours of work by specialist.

Very frustrating that this is still ongoing. Why wouldn't you just immediately rollback? FWIW, I have this issue on one TV but not the other. The TCL has Dolby Vision and a Dolby Atmos soundbar and has this issue but the LG is just HDR. I have never had to restart the Chromecast connected to the LG without Dolby Vision. Definitely seems related to Dolby Vision - but again, why not just revert our firmware until you fix it?!?
05-20-2023 02:08 PM
Also can confirm that switching from Dolby Vision to Always HDR in the Dynamic Range and Color Format setting immediately restored sound, but obviously that also changes the picture quality.
05-22-2023 07:38 AM
I guess the person who knew how to fix this was one of the 10,000 employees that got laid off.
05-22-2023 08:59 AM
That might actually be true. There are real consequences when companies lay people off like that which don't just affect marketing, sales, and new product development. It affects actual users and support. Google support was already terrible based on my past experience getting repairs to my Pixel phones, YouTube TV streaming quality issues, and support on Google Assistant devices.
05-22-2023 08:20 AM
From all the responses, the problem appears to be related to the Dolby stream. One suggestion of changing the feed from Dolby Vision to Always HDR does work *, however, * this, of course, changes the resolution in different apps to a version of 'full screen' showing only a portion of the image (at least on my setup, I could see only the top half of shows on Netflix). So - this 'work-around' doesn't 'work' for everyone - at least not for me.
Would it be possible to get an update - other than the canned response of 'we're investigating this...' ???
05-22-2023 10:44 AM
Is your picture resolution setting on your TV set to auto? I changed mine to full screen as some of the screen was being cut off when I first got the Chromecast, changing it to full screen or whatever your TV settings say fixed that problem for me, now all of the apps display correctly.
