Pixel 8 Pro cannot connect to Chromecast and Google home display

When I click the YouTube casting icon, I see both my living room TV Chromecast and my living room  Google home display. But when I click on either one of them to actually start casting, it says " connecting to Chromecast..." or "connecting to living room display..." for about 10 seconds before giving up.

The problem must be with the phone given that it can't connect to either device. Is there an advanced setting somewhere? An update?

Hi rlillis,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. The fact that it can detect both the Chromecast device and the Google Nest display means both devices are ready for casting. No settings are applicable since these devices function as slave devices, accepting cast commands from any devices within the same network. The cast option now depends on the casting source, in your case, your Pixel 8 phone. Kindly give our friends at the Google Pixel Help Community a shout. There might be users who have already experienced this and shared answers.

Let us know if you have questions or concerns related to your Chromecast device.

Thanks,

Kimy

Do you have VPN connected? I use a non-Google VPN and was experiencing the same issues. Repeated reboots of p8p would allow me a few seconds of casting the. It quits and won't connect again. I turned off vpn and now works without issue.

Hi Bulax88,

Thanks for joining this thread. You’re right! Turning off your VPN setup helps, as it affects WLAN communication. Let us know if you still have other questions or concerns.

Cheers,

Kimy
