Problems after update

hi,

I've recently encountered problems (after 5 or 6 years of owning a chromecast 3.0) during casting.

While I'm watching a sport match i.e. I can see 'loading' on my tv screen, and it takes 2-3seconds, it happens so often that I'm unable to watch. It's not happening on my PC when I'm not casting, so it's strictly related to my Chromecast device. I think it has to do something to do with the latest Chromecast update. My internet connection is flawless, around 300Mbit.

how can I roll back all of the updates so the Chromecast could work on the factory software?

thank you

What's Your answer? Over the last 7 years,  I've been able to cast sports events without any problems. Now when I cast anything either from Volleyball World or Local Polsat Tv Sport to my TV, it stucks on buffering or the picture becomes pixelated and it happens so often that I can't watch any event. No problems on playing anything directly from a PC. Internet speed is around 200Mbits all the time.
What have You done to the Chromecast updates? Why can't I roll back the updates?

Hi @kielbasa!

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing casting issues with your Chromecast device. I appreciate your efforts in taking those steps before. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • Which Chromecast model do you have?
  • Does the buffering/pixelation happen with all content, or just specific apps/streams (like Volleyball World or Polsat TV Sport)?
  • Have you tried casting from a different device (phone, tablet, etc.) to the Chromecast?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

It's a Chromecast 3.0, connected via USB and Hdmi port to my TV.

I tried the steps, I made reset and it didn't help.

Casting from any device causes the same problem. Laptop, desktop, phone.

I tried Volleyball World (the picture becomes pixaleted), if I cast from Polsat sport it's buffering in ~thirty seconds cycles, the screen pauses, it's not possible to watch any match this way. It never happened before for the last 5 years on any of these platforms.

How can I reduce picture casting quality? I can't see this option anywhere. Whatever quality I use on different websites, after I send the picture to Chromecast, it always casts in the highest quality, why?

How can I roll back the updates ? I'd like to use Chromecast in its factory state and factory software.

Hi @kielbasa!

Thank you for the information provided. Let's work together for a solution.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps:

  1. Remove the streaming device from the power source.
  2. Leave the device unplugged for one minute, then plug it back in.
  3. Open a different cast-supported app and cast a different video. You can use YouTube to cast.
  4. Try casting from another app and check if the issue occurs on apps other than Volleyball World or the local Polsat TV Sport.

Regarding your questions, your Chromecast is designed to choose the best quality possible, it will usually adjust the quality based on the stream. Streaming services may force a higher frame rate to keep the video smooth, this happens on the partner side and cannot be overridden by Chromecast devices. At this time, there is no way to choose a specific older software version on your Chromecast. A factory reset will install the most recent software available.

Your thoughts are valuable to us as we're always working to improve the Nest experience. Please share your thoughts directly with our development team using this feedback form. Your input will help us prioritize features and better serve our diverse user base.
