Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

As the heading states all 5 audio devices, 1 on wifi and 4 hardwired no longer work as of today. Funny how they sent an email about the Home Max Audio loosing features on 3/9/2025 but crickets about the cast audio devices!

Aqui a mesma coisa. Ate ontem, funcionou normal. Ja resetei e atualizei o aplicativo Home e nada 

I also have the exact same issues the chromecast just stopped working tried all the obvious things and eventually factory reset but now the device will not authenticate/verifie so im fully stuck  its also version NC2-6A5  eventually i thought it just broke an ill buy a new one but well there all sold out so im hoping this will get fixed soon 

Same here (Gen 2 Chromecast), authentication issues no matter which app I try to cast from, and doesn't show up in the Home app. Saw that many have tried factory reset and got locked out, so I haven't dared to try that in case they roll out some update to fix the issue.

Something is happening 🤔  this isn't a coincidence that at about nearly the same time all our chromecast devices shut down and can no longer be found or connected to!!!

Hi, Im from El Salvador, my parents just gave me their old Chrome Cast (i think is gen 2), did a factory reset bc today i tried to stream Twitch and wouldnt connect to the chrome cast, even tho the name was there, but when i click it, it wont do anything. After I reset it, it gave me an error that it couldnt connect to my wifi, even tho before it was connected to the same wifi, u cant set it up anymore, and mu parents just gave a tv with it lol 😞

2nd gen Chromecast offline as well. Better roll out the hot fix ASAP.

Same issue in Germany. But until yet, I couldn't find any solutions.

I am unable to setup my chromecast 2nd generation device. I tried to apply almost all fix suggest, but still getting the same error. Please suggest if you have any fix.

Same problem in Germany, just across the border from the Netherlands.

I have exactly the same issue here. 3 Chromecasts and today i can't stream from any smartphone (Xiaomi Poco X3 and Pixel 7). I tried Netflix and Youtube on both smartphones. Both apps on both phones list the chromecasts, but when i try to connect to them i get different errors:

Using netflix: "[translated from german]: No session could be created on the selected device".

Using youtube: "[translated from german]: Not a trusted device - Chromcast x could not be verified. The device's firmware may be out of date"

The devices are connected to the internet (They load picture Slideshows, show Weather information)

By the way: on this website (unfortunately only for Germany) users can report problems with all kinds of things. For about an hour now, massive problems with GoogleTV have been reported, in 89% of cases in connection with Chromecast devices: https://www.netzwelt.de/ist-down/1060-google-tv.html

No se pudo autenticar tu Chromecast. Esto me apareció desde hoy 09 de marzo de 2025. Ayer funcionaba Ok. Uso el Chromecast conectado a un TV LG que dejó de ser Smart hace algunos años y recibir la transmisión desde un movil Android. Ninguna solución descrita en los foros funciona porque no hay forma de actualizar desde el TV por su limitación ni tampoco desde la app Home. Gracias por la ayuda de antemano.

I have the same issue in Greece...

I've been trying for at least 30' reset the device again and again and still cannot communicate! Horrible!! It seems that is a worldwide issue,hope they fix it as soon as possible.....

I have been using my Chromecast for years, even upto yesterday I was casting films through it. All of a sudden, today, I tried to cast prime and it wouldn't connect. I went to the Google home app and its not on my app anymore. So I reset the Chromecast, so I could set it up again. I'm not recieving a pop up message saying "can't authenticate your Chromecast please visit (this website) for help troubleshooting this issue". Any ideas on a solution? I have tried resetting everything, phones, WiFi, Chromecast nothing seems to work

Hay algunas app que si pueden transmitir, como una pestaña de chrome y la app de musica Tidal, otro problema extraño es que ya no me muestra mi galería de fotos, sino que muestra fotos de internet. 

A mesma coisa esta acontecendo comigo.(Brasil) Meu Chromecast é do modelo antigo tbm. Apareceu essa mensagem dizendo que não é confiável, desinstalei, reinstalei e não voltou a funcionar. Estão de sacanagem! Parece que estão interrompendo o sinal para obrigar a comprar produtos atuais. 

I'm having the same issue. It was working perfectly this morning and 4 hours laters I Stuart having issues.

My Chromecast suddenly stopped working tonight. Was fine earlier in the day. I’ve reset my chromecast, updated my phone, updated my apps, made sure my local network access is on, and I still receive this message:

Livingroom tv may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your privacy settings and try again. 

Local network access is definitely on. i don’t know how else to solve this issue. My phone used to connect no problem. Chrome cast light is white, both devices on same wifi

A mí me ha pasado exactamente lo mismo, ayer lo pude ver sin problema y hoy día 9 de Marzo de 2025 me dice que no puedo autenticar mi chromecast y no encuentro la solución por ninguna parte ,espero que alguien me pueda ayudar.

Tengo el mismo problema que tú. Espero nos puedan ayudar a solucionarlo

Firmware de Cast : 1.56.275994.

Segun this link 

La version actual en produccion es para los Chromecast 2Gen es 1.56.275994. La que todos tenemos y aun asi no funciona.

Hi I've seen I am not the only one having this problem I have seen its a problem for a lot of people where I cannot use my chrome cast I've never had this problem before try to reconnecting it but says it can't I've tried everything can't seem to get it to work 

Starting tonight my chromecast just stopped working. It worked earlier today then suddenly no.. and after doing everything i'm supposed to do with restarting and resetting things it keeps failing the authentication process... and it seems other people are having the same issue? Any ideas?
