Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

My Google Chromecast worked perfectly fine last night, then when I turned it on today ambient mode under Google home was no longer working. I tried to redo my settings, but it said that it was unavailable. After receiving an error message that my Google Chromecast couldn't be authenticated even though the Chromecast numbers were matching up on my TV and in the Google home app , I clicked the link it gives you for help and tried all these steps below . I tried rebooting my Google Chromecast after unplugging everything for a minute, that still didn't work. I tried rebooting mobile phone, and cutting on and off the bluetooth, but that didn't work. I unplugged my internet and router for a minute and replug that in, that didn't work I uninstalled the Google home and reinstalled the app, and that didn't work. Nothing has worked that worked in the past, and now I see people from around the world have been posting issues with their Google Chromecast over the last several hours. Google needs to get their crap together and get the problems fixed now!

Da same happens to me, since like 5 hours ago.. wtf?

Same issue here. Reset Chromecast to factory settings then tried to add from Google home app. It shows a code on my TV screen but then says " cannot authenticate your chromecast". I have a Chromecast V2. Is there a page we can go to to get updates on progress?

both my chrome cast suddenly went offline in the google home app. Can’t connect with any streaming app. 
tried factory reset on 1 device but can’t finish the setup now…getting a feeling they are bricked now. What the heck happened?

Worked this morning, then my chrome cast stopped connecting with my phone. Gives the you TV my be setup but there is no communication with your iPhone. I have done everything under the sun to troubleshoot. What is the issue?

Having the same issue here - seems like there is a major down for all using Chrome Casts.. 

I can see in all tech forums that this is an issue of today all over the would that Chromecast 2 at least (not 1 however), stops receiving streams, mine too. I could see that I have the latest update of the firmware of 24/2-25: 275994 (https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7124014?hl=en#zippy=%2Ccurrent-production-firmware-vers...), so I used the guide to regain streaming. All easy first points on the list failed, so I got to the factory reset and performed. Here the Google Home app (also newest) will not authenticate, so now I'm locked out. Home app also have the 24/2-25 release date, so what could have happened making so many devices fail simultaniously?

Seems that the development team will have a busy day or two ironing this one out. First I guess you need to update the home app to authenticate devices that has been factory reset, so devices can get online again and then fix firmware to allow for streaming again.

good investigation. the only consolation is that if its this wide spread, there will be some action taken by the powers that be. Meanwhile, ALL my streaming services aren't very useful,  Thanks for the input 

Eu sou do Brasil e o problema não e no Chrome cast. A atualização do app Home não está reconhecendo os aparelhos da geração 1, 2 e 3. Tem que ser feito uma nova atualização. Podemos fazer a reclamação na play store e dar menos estrelas pra ver se resolve o problema mais rápido

Está reproduciendo y salió ese mensaje no se pu de autenticar Chromecast no sensibles por alguna restricción o versión de fimeware. Hemos seguido varios pasos de ayudas y ninguno funciona. Varias personas reportando en diferentes fotos está anomalí

Según foros es a nivel mundial... Canada, Argentina, España, etc. No funcionan los Chromecast gen 1 y gen 2

Al volver a la configuracion de fabrica e intentar configurar nuevamente salta un error y dice "no se pudo autenticar tu chromecast"....

Estaba usando chromecast, luego no pude usarlo. Después de resetearlo no se puede configurar y añadir a Google Home. Me dice que no se ha podido autentificar mi Chromecast  ¿Alguien sabe que pasó o que puedo hacer?

El mío está haciendo lo mismo, no se como hacer.

I have 2 chromecasts both of the same network and there both working seemlessly without any issues, i returned from work today one of them doesn't seem to connect, even though its connected to the internet and show the screensaver with the clock on the bottom right

at first i thought it was my internet that was the issue but the other one was working fine

so i did the following
1- I restarted my router
2- hard reset this chromecast
3- Tried connecting from my iphone 
4- Tried Connecting from another phone
5- Changed the TV
6- Changed the wifi network to another
7- Deleted my google home from both phone and installed them again
8- Removed any access point
9- changed the HDMI ports
10- Changed the power port
11- hard reset 3 times
12- checked that local network access is enbaled on both phones
13- disabled and enabled just in case
14- restarted both phones just in case

all with the same message
"something went wrong
family room tv maybe setup, but we could not communicate with it from your iphone
make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iphone's privacy setting, then try again"

hope anyone can help with this, it's so frustrating for the device to suddenly stop working

En México hay fallas al intentar utilizar Chromecast lo reinicie y no me permite nuevamente enlazarme apareciendo un mensaje de que no se puede enlazar 

Si hay fallas tiene todo el día de hoy que no se puede conectar chromecast. Soluciones Google 

I just understood what happened to us now... Chromecast V2 was loaded for sale on 2015.

10 years later, you can now throw it to the garbage

Hope this is not true. There was no announcement, this device is still very effective and performant. I do not think that we have security risks or vulnerabilities. They should extend the gen2 lifetime support

В мене така ж проблема виникла сьогодні 9 березня. Роутер бачить, а якщо запускеш Google Home - вони не онлайн.
