Issue is fixed. Please keep your TV on after connecting to your Chromcast. Google will push the update and system will automatically update and your Chromcast will start working after few restarts.
Thank you Google!

Stesso problema.

Buonasera a tutti.
Spero possiate aiutarmi.
Grazie

I have had my Chromecast set up for years and was last connected a few hours ago. When I try to reconnect I keep getting the error “TV may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone."
I've tried restarting my router, phone, the Chromecast, the Google Home app several times and nothing's worked. I've checked the local network access and the bluetooth settings, all are fine. I've also factory reset my Chromecast and tried connecting through the SSID as suggested in other threads and get the error "Connection failed. Couldn't connect to Chromecast. Make sure local network access is enabled..." even though it's already enabled!
Help!!

Google announced the end of Chromecast: https://blog.google/products/google-nest/chromecast-history/
It looks like TLS security certificates on the devices are expiring and not being renewed by Google. Unless Google is willing to update the certificates there will now be 100 million new pieces of eWaste.
They could help us transition it to the OpenSource community and maintain it ourselves but that's up to Google.

Same problem. I literally was casting this morning, and couldn't 3 hours later. I tried removing my Chromecast and re-adding it via the Home app. Now, it says I cannot authenticate.

Maybe same problem, two Chromecasts suddenly won't connect to our phones.
I have restarted, rebooted and changed every setting in router and apps.

My Chromecast just stopped working today, It's either a gen 2 or gen 3. I tried to reconnect it in the Home app (android), as it was set up and showed on my TV, just not registering my wifi. Nothing worked from the troubleshooting guidelines, so I ended up doing a hard factory reset. I deleted the old setting from the Home app. Now, my CC won't even get set up. When I open the Home app I click on "add device" it will find my CC and then want to establish a temporary internet connection. After that it thinks and thinks and then says "I cannot communicate with your CC."
nothing has changed with our wifi
*all connections, tests and other devices work perfectly fine. It’s not the wifi or internet
*privacy settings are all good for Google home
I have done all these steps before and after the factory reset:
Nothing works. I do not have an older device that supports the Google Home app (I tried) and we only have 1 TV. Any tips/advice are welcome.
I also tried to connect to the CC's wifi and open the Google Home App and see what happens then, but it still does not work. Please help me as I've been trying to fix this for 3 hours.

There are quite a few people (including myself) who have the same issue. Google is aware. So far, though, no solution to my knowledge.
03-09-2025 04:26 PM
Is this a thing that just happened today?
03-09-2025 04:05 PM
Same here. I don't know why. I can't connect anymore. What is the problem???
03-09-2025 04:10 PM
If you have Android 10 - try the setup from this phone. I tried but can't move past the authentication.
03-10-2025 09:13 AM
Same ..suddenly from yesterday I m not able to cast...not sure if gen2 support is there or not from Google for chromcast
03-09-2025 03:42 PM
I've two Chromecast since years perfectly working.
This evening both stop to be available broadcasting from all apps such as YouTube, Amazon prime, Netflix, even the screen transmit of chrome browser didn't work.
I've rebooted them several times, rebooted to router too and so on.
They appears online showing picture browsed by web, datetime and weather temp. Of course they're connected to wifi, I can see from router interface too
If I look for them by Home app on Android smartphone they appear offline nevertheless on the tv screen I see online.
I've tried to fabric reset one but the configuration procedure fails with a "cannot authenticate" error. The device on tv screen shows is code and the one to setup.
No way to get it.
Considering that this happen to both I suspect some issue outside of my power
03-09-2025 03:43 PM
estou com o mesmo problema
03-09-2025 03:44 PM
Mine as well, it shows on TV the wallpaper, crunchyroll sees the Chromecast but don't connect.
03-09-2025 03:45 PM
Got the same error now
03-09-2025 03:49 PM
I tried everything you did too and having the same Authenticion message too it's a global issue
03-10-2025 05:20 AM
I cannot post the link but there's a post on Reddit on the r/Chromecast page
Global issue.

An intermediary SSL Certificate expired on you CC device. Google needs to either renew that certificate and resign all CC SSL certificates with the new intermediary SSL Certificate or come up with another solution that would be quicker to deploy on those millions of devices.

I reset the chromecast because i could not stream from my streaming services (Netflix, Pime etc). Now i can't config the device from Google home. The app find the device but it says it can't authenticate. Problems starts today. Never have problemls earlier.
