If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

The same thing happens to me, and I didn't find a solution.
Were you able to solve it or have any ideas for it?
03-09-2025 03:59 PM
I Am having literally the same problem. I just went to go cast from prime and all the sudden I'm having issues. I even factory reset my Chromecast to try and fix the issue and now it's giving me the error that says it couldn't authenticate my Chromecast. I was able to cast prime and Netflix yesterday with no problems
03-09-2025 03:59 PM
I AM with the same problem since today with two chromcast
03-09-2025 04:01 PM
Same here. It said it was having a firmware issue initially. Figured a factory reset would do the trick. Not this.
03-09-2025 08:51 PM
Same issue here! I've done the factory reset and even reset my wifi, but it still won't authenticate my devices. This started today.

Me too
03-09-2025 10:38 AM

Previously, my chromecast was working fine and suddenly cant connect this evening mentioning issues about firmware. Then i factory reset my chromecast multiple times, plugged and unplugged, restart my router, reinstall google home app, try to add new device but keep saying "we couldnt authenticate your chromecast". What should i do to make sure its working again?
03-09-2025 01:51 PM

03-09-2025 01:34 PM
Why is every thread of the chromecasts having issues with authentication being removed? I have seen so many people, including me, writing about tonight.
03-09-2025 01:38 PM
I think they are getting consolidated?
03-09-2025 01:38 PM
What to do about it now? I am facing the same issue
03-09-2025 01:39 PM
I have the same, all of a sudden I can’t cast anymore from apps, but the background pictures are showing on my chromecast.
03-09-2025 01:38 PM
Same here... One 3rd gen working, other three 2nd gen doesnt

Same. I was literally using my Chromecast Audio this morning to stream Spotify.
I know they ended the product in 2019 and said they'd keep releasing updates until September 2025 but it looks like a TLS security certificate on the device finally expired and they didn't update it to a new one. Unless Google is willing to update the certificate the device is trashed... unless Google helps us transition it to the OpenSource community and maintain it ourselves. What a waste.
03-09-2025 01:51 PM
So instead of just scrapping gen 1 they're scrapping both? Maybe? Its so wierd that the information isn't put out by google themselves. To confirm the issue and give some form of response to their customers. Cause again, it seems like its worldwide
03-09-2025 01:40 PM
Chromecast worked fine for years, can't connect now. Did everything factory reset, etc still won't connect. Says can't communicate with my Chromecast
