Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Here’s the latest:

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Whay do you do if you've ALREADY factory reset? 

 

I literally cannot link my phone to the Chromecast anymore! 

Set your phone to march 8. you can get it back on the wifi but you can’t stream. We all have to wait till google comes with a update

How can a license issue that expired on 03/09/2025 take so long to be resolved? Is it really that difficult to fix this license error?

El horror mejor dicho fue comprar un cromecast.. después cuando te lo venden tenes que tener paciencia

Nous n arrivons plus a caster sur notre écran, je pense que mon chromecast était en panne mais j ai essayé avec 2 ème et nous avons le même problème.

J espère que sa va être rétabli rapidement

*You guys should pin Max 98s suggestion on how to un- factory reset your Chromecast. *  Many of us have done this and you suggest that we shouldn't have even though your help section told us to!

Please let me know the fix as I'm like many who followed your online advice of doing a factory reset 

Max98 suggested to set your phone back to March 8th. Then set up Chromecast. It won't work but it will undo the factory reset. Hope so. I did it, wasn't hard. We're just going to have to wait until the Google gods fix this for us.

Dear verse, Chromecast suddenly went offline. I reset the Chromecast device to factory settings. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Home app. However, the installation is not completed, the 1. generation Chromecast device identity could not be verified error screen appears, I sent a screenshot. PLEASE URGENT SUPPORT

Unfortunately I reset my Chromecast Audio (by the way, on instruction of Google when following the troubleshooting process in the Google Home app). Look forward to instructions ASAP.

Getting Message we couldn't authenticate your chromecast. I have already done the factory reset and still its showing the same error.

 

This is the 3rd day wherein I am inable to connect through chromecast and wasn't expecting this from Google.....Going soical about it now.

La única solución es desde tu móvil cambiar la fecha ... al día 07 de marzo .. en ajustes del teléfono.. después vas home y volver a conectar . Seguramente ahí si vas a poder .. pero te va dar otro problema que no va a poder trasmitir por el error de Google

Chnage the date before 7th March and reconnect, atleast it gets connected but not streaming. Waiting for Google to solve this

I was one of those who factory reset my second generation Chromecast and I did it about ten times.

I found out how to go back to a chrome cast that is recognized on the network. 

I took my Android phone and I set the date back to anything before March 8th, so to be sure I just took March 1st.

Decloud me to buy Pass the failed Certificate from Google, and restore my second generation Chromecast so it is now recognized by the TV, the wi-fi router as well as my phone.

I still can't stream to it, though, so I am now in the waiting position. 

This reply is just to help others who have factory reset their Chromecast before they became aware of this thread.

If Odido didn’t send me a new wifi device I wouldn’t do anything to set it back to the factory settings.
