where did You set the clock to March 7? What settings did You go to?
03-11-2025 03:23 AM
Ah yup.
03-11-2025 09:22 AM
Yeah one of the solutions in their troubleshooting… great 🙄
03-11-2025 10:19 AM
You just need to set you phone time and date to before March 9 and set it back up in Google home. I did it and and it is now ready for whatever Google throws at it.
03-11-2025 11:16 AM
I wish they tell those who factory reset their device, what to do next.
03-11-2025 11:26 AM
If you roll the date back on your phone and re-add the device in the Google Home app, it will work. There are also workarounds using third party tools that will allow you to start streaming until a fix is made. I used the workarounds in this post.

Some Reddit users have adviced to try and change the date of your phone to the 8th and then try and set up the WiFi again if you lost that with the factory reset
03-11-2025 01:56 PM
I tried that and even though I did get somewhat further in the process I still couldn't finish the setup. 2nd gen Chromecast
03-11-2025 02:03 PM
It worked for me, I had to be very close to the router. It's now set up but the original problem remains
03-11-2025 02:15 PM
Did you end up with ambient mode with a folder of random google photos, but not able to connect? If so you got as far as you can right now.

Goggle you need to offer some kind of discount, to people who’s Chrome Cast has been turned into a brick. Since the outage is on your end.
03-12-2025 04:22 PM
No they don’t need to .
03-12-2025 09:14 AM
Prof... really? You spent ~$45 nearly 10 years ago and want to come in here with demands because you experienced a minor inconvenience to your workflow? The amount of entitlement here is astounding.
03-12-2025 03:28 PM
Heard. I spent a whole $24.99 on my Chromecast. And yes. It is dead. It's great that Google is trying to make it work again. But get off of it. Let people bitch if they want to bitch. Stop being condescending. Astounding.

Solution provided by @pmk421 for those of us who reset our devices to factory settings.
1. Change the date to March 6, 2025 (not automatically), which is earlier than the expiration date of the digital security certificate.
2. Use Google Home to manage your second-generation Chromecast until it connects to your home network. It's as if you just bought it and want to program it for use at home.
3. Wait with the device connected to your home or office Wi-Fi network until Google provides the definitive solution, which will be updating the device.
Regards.
Carlos

still no updates?!
03-13-2025 09:59 PM
I rely on this for any and all my needs
Please fix or replace with usable alternative

Of course I used a factory reset. Up until a couple of weeks ago, that was always the first thing to do when the Chromecast was doing anything weird.
Whatever patch you make will have to work on devices that have been reset and no longer connect to the internet. At the very least we should be able to patch it using mobile data with our mobile devices.

SAME!

I want to object to all the negative responses and praise Google for offering a solution for the >5 years old products. Yes you are right they should have thought on this failuremode when introducting the manufacturing device certificate but erros are made. They reach out to their customers and promise a solution which I think is very good for a product which costed me $4/year since I bought it in 2017

Mit der Datumsänderung auf 08.03.2025 auf Smartphone hat die Konfiguration des Chromecast funktioniert. Läuft jetzt alles wieder!
