Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

ok and how will you inform us because of course I have done a  factor reset, if you don't take our address 

Thanks, this has caused our non-profit event to a chaos as we were not able to connect to the Chromecast to show our program on the screen in our social event with the public. We didn't expect such small device create such a big adverse impact on our program. What is the ETA on this fix? we have been patiently waiting for this fix.. 

Please fix it. It didn't work and then I reset a 2nd generation Chromecast and now I have nothing, the phone can't communicate with the device. I use this device daily. I hope you fix it soon. Thanks

Before you write this and before we find it We reseted already, what now? and When it will back!!!

It would have been wise to remove factory reset recommendations for non-connecting devices from your help pages. Because I’m sure I’m not the only person who heeded that advice. But “wise” seems the wrong adjective to describe the people working on this!

My two Chromecast audio and 2.0 devices have not been working since Sunday. What is the plan to get these devices working again?

Too late, have (in panic) bought Google Tv streamer. Never got the warning ...

outage starten 09 marche due expiry certificaten, at least provide indication when fix will be there. #DAYS #Weeks

Since making my prior post, I've gotten about 30 e-mails notifying me of updates on this thread, but my question remains unanswered: what is the estimated timeline for resolution?

Please provide a phone number that I may call to discuss this further.

Any news yet? Is it working ?.did the reset so need the manual to fix that

exactamente eso me sale a mi tambien, esperemos que solucionen pronto ese problema, hay partidos de champions y me gusta verlos en HD tirandolos desde mi telefono XD jeje

 

Many of us have reset our devices to reconfigure them. We need you to address this issue and provide a solution. Thank you very much.

Gracias  y a la espera de una pronta solución técnica. Somos muchísimos usuarios los damnificados, y creo que la mayoría hemos reintentado desinstalando, reinstalando o reseteando el Chromecast a fábrica.

Ahá ... do you guys know that factory resetting is one of the first actions we users do to fix problems at home? so what do we do if we already reseted the device? thank you

Good thing my other two chromecast devices are working, otherwise I would have been screwed completely. 

A workaround for setting up after factory reset: start by adjusting the date on your phone to before March 9. This way you can at least connect the device again. 

Hope the streaming issue gets fixed soon.

This worked for me. Thanks to those who have suggested it! Still can stream, but at least it's reconnected to my home/nest and ready for the fix. 

How much longer do we have to wait?!

As it's not the first time I had problems with my device, I already proceeded to factory reset it. What should I do now?

Wait for the official solution from google or read the other posts giving workarounds on how to add back the CC to google home and add it back to your WiFi network .

So I had done a factory reset think it was me. Now we await Google and hope for a fix

Yes but you might have a bit more steps to perform to get it back online .

You made NO announcement of trouble with chromecast so I like thousands of others followed YOUR troubleshooter and did a factory reset. IF YOU KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM THEN YOU MUST TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS not leave them to struggle unaided. I along with many others are already looking for an alternative away from Google because of the poor customer relations
