Hello, I also restored it to factory settings and following the following steps I was able to reconfigure it, I managed to broadcast from the mobile to the TV again, but the image from the mobile is only partially displayed, at least I was able to reconfigure it and now I just have to wait for the update.

First of all, you need to change the date on your mobile phone to a day before March 9, 2025. From here you can reconfigure the Chromecast.

Then follow the following steps to be able to broadcast again

Fix casting from Android (GUI method)

  • Download and install an activity manager app, like the free and open-source Activity Manager app.
  • Launch the app and select Intent Launcher from the dropdown menu in the upper right corner.
  • Tap the edit icon next to the Action field and type/paste this: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction
    • On Android 11 and below, type/paste this instead: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsDebugAction
  • Leave the other fields blank, and tap the checkmark button in the lower right corner.
  • In the Cast Debug settings panel that pops up, scroll down to Connection and enable Bypass Device Auth.

This workaround forces open the Cast Debug settings page and lets you enable the Bypass Device Auth option (i.e., it allows you to turn off device authentication), partially fixing the issue. You should now be able to cast from apps, and the Google Home app should also partially work.

This is terrible. I factory reset mine several times because it wasn't working. Now what?

HA! Literally any response sooner than the many, many hours you **bleep** waffles took before you even acknowledged the problem would've been better than this bull**bleep**. Also...the "Please don't factory reset your device" plea was a very nice touch, considering it's one of the very first things mentioned in the troubleshooting guide. Well done! It's almost as if the powers that be had a brainstorm session on the best way to piss off a huge percentage of your customers and push them to your competitors. Chromecasts are in the trash, speeding to my local phone outlet to turn in my brand new Pixel 9 Pro for something un-Google and uninstalling  any Google app I'm able. Nice job, **bleep**nuts....

I have third generation with this software version

Chromecast (3rd gen)1.56. 291998

And although i managed to factory reset it before configuration ( i just bought it) name it and add it to my home in Google Home app , i cannot cast to it. Just like what you are describing gen 2 problems. So i guess its not only gen 2 and cc Audio?

I hope you will update gen 3 aswell

Hi. The Chromecast is discovered in the network. But there is connection failure in the end. It is not the router since I get the same result with hotspot. Please help

Understand that Google is not better than any ordinary company who try to exploit people. Money is ultimately supreme to everyone.. That's what President Trump says.Chinees goods are  now seems better option as they are cheap. We will not frustrate if they stop support or the product stops functioning. The most frustrating thing is betrayal. That's what Google did on Chromecast gen 2 . They killed the trust.

Now I will think twice before buying google product

Gracias

We all know that Chromecasts stopped working on the 9th of March because Google forgot to push an update to replace an expiring certificate on the device. There are 3 ways to go about this problem, yet Google has not implemented any.

1) Those Chromecasts that have not been reset to factory default can still connect to the internet and an update should be available directly from Google. Why hasn't Google pushed the update on them yet? This would likely fix about 50% of the devices out there.
2 and 3 [one for Android and one for iOS] ) Users who performed a factory reset can still setup the device by changing the date on their phone to before the 9th of March, and they will get to the point of configuring the Chromecast's wifi connection. At this point their phone will lose connection with the Chromecast because it will switch from Bluetooth to Wifi, but at least the Chromecast should have access to the internet (if so, the date displayed on the TV by the Chromecast will be correct).

Steps 2 and 3 can be complicated for users with little technical knowledge, but this should save a lot of devices from being "bricked" for good, and should allow Google to push some update on the device (see point 1).

So, why hasn't this happened yet? Why hasn't Google even posted step 2 and 3 officially to any channel to give people something to start working with? Any chance that this has to do with the new $99 Google streamer?

Hello everyone. I read a couple of post and many have similar issues I have. My Google Chromecast is not working... Tried as well to reboot, get through the motion up until the end when get the mess on screen S9M9 and confirm the nothing but the message saying the Chromecast cannot be authenticated... I know this year it will stop receiving updates but it's not until August. It really sucks cause it's a great little device and I wish it could give me a little while longer of life. It seems nobody got an answer about this problem??? I cross my fingers for a solution cause the new Chromecast is unavailable (out of stock) where I live(Quebec/Canada) and I don't know if it would work the same ???

Been using this Chrome cast for years.   Suddenly it's not 'authenticating'.  All wifi etc been triple checked.

Also, why doesn't this information appear on a Google search for "is there a problem with Chromecast"?

THE GOOD OL' DAYS

Well friends, in my opinion we're dealing with a good ol' dose of planned obsolescence from one of the richest global entities - rule of thumb was created a century ago in relation to light bulbs... There's truth in the saying they don't make 'em like they used to because if they made things to last forever - a key marketing point back in the day - you will never need to BUY ANOTHER

Pure greed. And all this hot air is doing is creating a **bleep** storm. But Google are prepared to cop some flack as they have this market cornered.

"Purchase another or go without."
