If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Vous êtes vraiment une bande de con! Vous écrivez partout de faire un reset quand un problème arrive avec le chromecast…et là il ne faut pas le faire…ben voyons vous savez bien que c’est déjà fait puisque ce sont vos recommandations partout 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Calme toi le smart !  Ils vont régler le problème et fournir une solution pour ceux qui l’ont factory reset … et si tu avais cherché le moindrement sur N’IMPORTE QUEL moteur de recherche , tu aurais LU que tu peux le ramener à la vie , du moins temporairement, pour le remettre dans Google home .   ;). Bonne recherche !

Do nada meu Chromecast deixou de funcionar. Já desinstalei, reiniciei e nada. Aparece conectando ao Chromecast, coloco sim e depois essa mensagem "Não foi possível autenticar o Chromecast. Acesse suporte...." Alguém pode me ajudar como resolver isso?

It’s unbelievable that chrome hasn’t worked since Sunday, Google do better. And if it’s true they are trying to discontinue them Google should announce it and not try to be sneaky!!

I have Google Chromecast 2nd generation and use it regularly to cast content from Google Chrome browser on my PC. From last few days when I try to cast content I am getting a message "Only available to cast from selected video sites" and I am not able to cast anything from Google Chrome. I have tried following steps:

1. Restart chromecast and restart PC
2. Restart internet modem
3. Factory reset Chromecast

After factory reset I tried to add Chromecast back using Google Home app. The app finds Chromecast and able to connect to it but its not able to complete set-up and I get the following message:

"Something went wrong"
Chromecast may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone's privacy settings. Then try again

I have verified and local access is enabled for Google Home app in iPhone settings

It seems to be world wide. I haven't gotten any responses to assistance. Requested a call and it just says it couldn't connect me and hangs up. 

I tried to request a call a few times but no one ever called. Hope we find a solution soon.

I came here to see if there was any new information from Google on this. Would have been nice if they had posted that they're working on it and aware of the issue.

Acabo de actualizar la version 3.30.1.5 de la app Google Home y sigo sin poder configurar mi Chromecast.

Hello, I also restored it to factory settings and following the following steps I was able to reconfigure it, I managed to broadcast from the mobile to the TV again, but the image from the mobile is only partially displayed, at least I was able to reconfigure it and now I just have to wait for the update.

First of all, you need to change the date on your mobile phone to a day before March 9, 2025. From here you can reconfigure the Chromecast.

Then follow the following steps to be able to broadcast again

 

Fix casting from Android (GUI method)

  • Download and install an activity manager app, like the free and open-source Activity Manager app.
  • Launch the app and select Intent Launcher from the dropdown menu in the upper right corner.
  • Tap the edit icon next to the Action field and type/paste this: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction
    • On Android 11 and below, type/paste this instead: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsDebugAction
  • Leave the other fields blank, and tap the checkmark button in the lower right corner.
  • In the Cast Debug settings panel that pops up, scroll down to Connection and enable Bypass Device Auth.

This workaround forces open the Cast Debug settings page and lets you enable the Bypass Device Auth option (i.e., it allows you to turn off device authentication), partially fixing the issue. You should now be able to cast from apps, and the Google Home app should also partially work.

It’s been a few days and still its not working. And the late information about the issue i did do a reset. A update or a time plan would be great because not being able to use our tv for 3 days is a bit much

Como não tive nenhuma informação antes do problema dei reset no chromescast e agora a tela na TV aparece imagens horario e tempo porém no home nada acontece esta off-line o chromescast

Yes please fix the chrome cast issue Google at the earliest. It’s very inconvenient for suddenly stopping the support like this.

So is this a glitch happening to lots of people? And will Google do something? I have tried to contact them but no success with them calling me back.

I was about to buy a smart tv but will hold off till I call Dodo tech support tomorrow.They have always been extremely helpful

I am getting a msg that my phone (Android) can't communicate with the ChromeCast. I have been using it for over a year. My phone is finding the ChromeCast but can't set up. Just stopped working one day. Have factory reset and changed HDMI ports still having the same problem.

I have exactly same problem. Was working fine, showing family photos and streaming from the phone. Then it changed to default Google photos and I can't connect.

Home App will find it, displays correct numbers and then can't authenticate. Factory reset etc does nothing.

Hola, yo fui uno de los que reinició de fabrica el dispositivo, sigo sin poder transmitir, pero para volver a ver la pantalla de chromecast2 y los fondos de pantalla, tuve que cambiar la fecha de mi celular (anterior al 9/3/25) con eso pude volver a ver mi dispositivo en "Home" por ahí les sirve el comentario. Igual el problema continúa

Hay un post que tiene solución temporal para poder lanzar, yo lo he seguido y me funciona perfectamente.
