Depending upon your Phone OS, stop automatic update of date and time, manually set data and time of 7th March 2025 or anything earlier than 9th March. Now force close the Google Home app and re launch it. You should be able to setup your Chromecast. However, it will still not allow to cast due to untrusted device error which has to be fixed by Google team.

Thanks for your input! In my case I factory reseted my chromecast gen2 and was unable to connect to app Home. Now I succeeded and waiting for google solution. Screensaver again on TV but unable to cast.

manually set the date on your phone prior to march 9th, something like march 7th
Then open google home and set the device up, it will connect as a new device. Once it's on your wifi network, sit back and wait for the pushed update fix, feel free to set date back to current on the phone once the chrome cast device is back on wifi

03-13-2025 09:46 AM
Lol "do not factory reset your device" Too bad that that was literally #9 on their check list when I googled the issue Monday evening. I literally followed the instructions to troubleshoot the issue & now my chromecast is bricked. Weird that I didnt receive an email telling me there was an issue until right now (Thurs @ noon). I already threw my chromecast out thinking it's done.
03-13-2025 09:46 AM
Does this apply to 3rd Gen Chromecast? I have been days unable to connect, authenticate or communicate with my Chromecast. I have factory reset and still no luck, please fix.
03-13-2025 09:59 AM
Yes 2nd and 3rd gen
03-13-2025 09:46 AM
No sé puede conectar
03-13-2025 09:47 AM
Good afternoon. Thanks for the information. Approximately how long will it take to reach everyone affected? I haven't been able to use it for four days. I just checked, and the problem persists. Best regards.
03-13-2025 09:47 AM
Infelizmente no primeiro dia eu fiz o.reset no meu aparelho.
03-13-2025 09:48 AM
This issue began Sunday March 9th. After spending 2-3 hours trying to correct which INCLUDED multiple x's Factory Resetting, you folks then "show up days later" and state DO NOT FACTORY RESET.
You "tech nerds" are DEVOID of context and sensitivities. Your COMPANY is OPAQUE in it's endeavors. How about FIXING this "Google GENERATED GLOBAL error" and communicate and compensate those of us who've been negatively effected?!
03-13-2025 09:51 AM
03-13-2025 09:55 AM
Saya sudah berkali me-restart Chromecast gen 2 saya
03-13-2025 09:53 AM
I did a factory reset of my chromecast 2nd generation. I need help too get it fixed. Can’t connect to WiFi when I trying to perform the new setup.
03-13-2025 11:46 AM
03-13-2025 10:26 PM
Try changing the date on your phone manually to March 8, 2025 (prior to the date of the problem) and from the Home app add device, when it asks you for the wifi password try to enter it manually and to all the other questions answer "not for now", and thus I managed to get the Chromecast to connect to the Internet, the clock will now show the updated time therefore it has a connection, now you can stream videos if you can't until the corrective patch from Google arrives, but at least it is now online to receive it.

Patience have a cost, tell me we gonna have compensation for this.
Im all google with every tv at home and nothing work right now, very frustrating.

Hi !
I have total 7 chromecast units bricked around my house. Chromecast Audio 4 and 2nd gen chromecast TV 3 devices. To replace these with something else with UPNP or Apple Air link devices (not releted anymore to google and chromecast technology) is going to cost me some money but this is not end of the world.
It is lesson learned ! Ther is so many cheap devices to buy (stay away from word chromecast)
Any old tv box even with older android version with audio out can be used as audio streamer ( Minix, Gbox etc)
Raspberry Pi 4 (silent, no fan) as audio streamer, cheapest 2 GB version is more than enough.
For TV streaming there is so many cheap devices and you know their names. They working same way or better than your old overrated chromecast.
For number of years I was reccomending Google devices as best working to all my family and friends.
Imagine how do I feel now after this big stink that Google created.
We simply lost Trust in Google !
END OF STORY
GOODBAY GOOGLE DEVICES
I am cancelling my Google services which I am paying subscription monthly and I am reccomending to you to do samething in order to say Thank You ! Google for your hard work !
Please do not lecture me not to panick and wait for fix.
Too long wait for all sick and older people that can not move out of the bed and they were cut off from listening to the radio stations and watching TV !
Shame on you google !

03-13-2025 10:01 AM
What to do for a factory reset, since I already did one and now it can't connect at all.
03-13-2025 10:40 AM

The least you can do after this is extend the support period. I've spent about 9 hours trying to fix it - before discovering it was a global outage (outrage?!) Ending support is crazy. I don't need a fancier device and why send millions of perfectly functioning devices to landfill? (Oh - because then we'll have to buy new stuff?)
03-13-2025 10:03 AM
Take your time, I have already bought a Roku
03-13-2025 10:04 AM
It is already 3 days over & still no fix ... This is really disrespect for customer.. Hope google understand the seriousness & ensure timely fix.
