Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Ok I'll wait for you fix solution then. But be sure that if it's solvable I'll Nevers buy again a Google product at all, and I'll not promote it anymore.

For those of us that have factory reset the Chromecast already, you can do a bit of work on it using https://gist.github.com/interfect/5f68381d55658d334e2bc4619d796476

 

This will reenable the wifi. So I can now at least cast to the Chromecast using https://github.com/skorokithakis/catt

 

 

VLC also works to send videos to it too.

 

 

So they're not totally useless until Google gives us a new certificate.

You have to consider that many users have already performed a factory reset on their Chromecast 2nd Gen. If your team is unable to identify the issue, perhaps you could offer an exchange program by mail or in-store, or provide a rebate for a new device. Thank you for your understanding.

Martedì non sapendo cosa stesse succedendo leggendo dei post sulla risoluzione del problema ho resettato il mio Chromecast...al momento tramite l'app HOME di Google riconosce il Chromecast ma non lo fa abbinare ...la soluzione al mio ed al problema un po' di chi si trova in questa situazione lo pisterete su questa pagina?

Necesitamos más compromiso de su parte, pues sobre todo esta generación la adquirimos para no tener problemas de sincronizacion como con Alexa. Compre dos Chrome cast y ninguno funciona, es aquí cuando pierdo fe y mejor compro un Roku q no tenga problemas como estos 🙄
