If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Hola Google si hicieron el factor y reset para volver a configurarlo sólo deben poner fecha de 8 de marzo en sus móviles y volver a levantarlo. Luego solo queda esperar la actualización 

Para los que lo resetearon.

Vayan a sus ajustes de su telefono/tablet y pongan la fecha antes del 9 de marzo. Depues, abran la aplicación de Home y vuelvan a configurar su Chromecast, una vez que teeminen de volver a instalar y configurar, regresan I afecha normal a su dispositivo y tratan de trasmitir algo a su Chromecast, les va a salir un mensaje de que el firware no wsta actualizado. Con esto quedara otra vez configura y enlazado su chrome como si no lo hubiesen reseteado. Esto es oara volverlo a configurar.

Y de ahi esperar a que Google solucione el problema

For those who reset their device:

 

Go to your phone or tablet settings and set the date to before March 9. Then, open the Google Home app and set up your Chromecast again.

 

Once you’ve finished reinstalling and configuring it, change your device’s date back to the current date. When you try to cast something to your Chromecast, you’ll see a message saying that the firmware is not up to date.

 

This process will restore your Chromecast as if it had never been reset. This is just a workaround to get it set up again while we wait for Google to fix the issue.

When I set the correct date afterwards and try to cast - I am not getting the msessage you mention. Neither do I get it if I try to set the date back to prior to 9th march. In either case, I get a message indicating that the connection failed.

sauf que moi l’appareil essaie bien de se connecter au Chromecast pendant un moment puis échoue mais il n’y a ensuite aucun message

Please fix it. And also its ridiculous to say no factory reset because that's what the troubleshoot says to do. Please I don't want to buy another thing it worked so well for so many years. 😫 Please try 🙏 

Take your time mutterfukeer we are allready 5 days of service down. If it takes too long and I end up buying some other device, beleive me it wont be from google and I will never ever spend a cent in you ash*les.

Time for an update Google.  Either that or you replace devices you have rendered inoperable at your expense.

ABSOLUTELLY EVERYBODY DID A FACTORY RESET, you retarsd put the reset buttom in the device to solve this kind of problems - Move your fucingk assss quicker, or loose a lot of customers.

My trusty Chromecast Audio has been rock solid for years, so I'm very glad it hasn't bricked, and it's just a bug.  Very much looking forward to it coming back online!

Ho prutroppo effettuato il reset ma sono poi riuscito a ricollegare il Chromecast alla rete in questa maniera: ho disattivato data e ora automatico su smartphone ed ho impostato una data antecedente al giorno del bug. Dopodiché riprovando a configurare sono riuscito a comunicare con il Chromecast e a ricollegarlo al wifi. Ora attendo paziente l'aggiornamento. Provate!

How long do I have to leave it turned on? I get rolling wallpaper pictures but no connection to my phone to stream.

JUST CHANGE THE DATE ON YOUR PHONE TO SET UP YOUR CHROMECAST 2nd GEN AFTER A FACTORY RESET!

Hey everybody,

I performed a factory reset on my Chromecast 2nd gen and I found a way how to set it up back again - just change the date on your phone to anything before March 9, 2025 (when the certificate in our Chromecasts 2nd Gen expired) and using Google Home app just set it up as you normally would. It works!

But it didn't fix the issue of streaming. I will wait for the official fix from Google to install. At the moment, at least here in Slovakia, it has not been rolled out.

Si lo restableciste como yo, solo cambia la fecha de tu teléfono al 8 de marzo o fecha anterior e inicia el proceso de configurar tu Chromecast desde la app de Google Home. Lastimosamente ésto aún no soluciona el problema de enviar contenido, pero sí te deja en la pantalla de fondos pantalla de Chromecast para que pueda recibir la actualización

La actualización nunca llego a mi dispositivo claramente conectado a la red. No logro comprender como google llego a ser tan ineficiente

Its been over four days since you recognized the issue. Why do I feel like you just bricked all our devices so we'd have to upgrade?

La gran mayoría de los usuarios restablecimos de fábrica. Hay gente que utiliza el Chromecasr g2 todo el tiempo todo los días. Si tan solo hubieran enviado un comunicado previo no estaríamos en estos aprietos. Si esto no tiene solución van a perder miles de clientes, que seguridad me da que si compro otro de los más actuales el año que viene ya no funcione. Saludos

If a user has conducted a factort reset, why not just roll back date on moblie device to pre certificate expiration date. Shouldn't this allow Chromecast device connectivity to recieve fix (updated certificate) ?
