Update 3/17/25:

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Just checked and one is back on line. Not sure when it happened as it was Monday when I first had the certificate problem and just looked now.

Other two are grayed out an I have not touched them. Only thing I did to the one working was reboot it prior to finding out about the certificate problem.

I may reboot the one of the offline ones and see if that triggers some kind of update and leave the other to see if it gets pushed.

Will update.

I rebooted one and after a few minutes it's online. Looks like you need to remove the usb power for a few seconds and plug it back in.

Good luck, going to reboot my last one.

FYI I did not reset any of my devices.

Hello! I understand that your chromecast is working? It says it's an old version and is offline. Can you give me details if it works?

Purchased on Amazon about a year ago, when I try to install the device is found but then the message says could not authenticate, and hence will not connect to wifi. I believe the product is from Japan. Can you please help. Thanks Tony Cassidy, #

I have a pic of bar codes

I had issues as well with a thermostat bought from Amazon.  it is really hit or miss with Amazon and google Nest.  I am curious to know the outcome of this.  Have you tried to call google Nest support?

I still can’t connect and I haven’t done the factory reset. I just deleted from my devices but now I can’t get it back because it is not connecting. Google should address this priority. It is very annoying.

So Google finally posted that there's an issue and the advice not to reset comes in after the event. Typical of all technology companies! You guys never raise your hands and come clean whenever there's an problem. You just wait it out until everyone is shouting. Unbelievable!!! Not happy at all!!!

This is ridiculous. If you can't fix the issue,a refund should be made so we can get different ones. It's been going on a week. I have 2 Chromecast and can't even use them.

My Chromecast Audio is now working.  I did have to power cycle.  Its my favorite Google product.

No one has managed to get an update to revive our Chromecast; they've simply broken the only thing that worked. Shame on you.

I'm also experiencing issues with my Chromecast (2nd generation) not connecting to the Google Home app on my mobile. Do you have an estimated timeline for when this issue will be resolved?

Has this also effected Google Nest, Google Display along with the Chrome Casts original links created to Spotify etc? They all went down at the same time in our place. I can now use the Nest and Display again but links are no longer there.
