Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

I’ve received the firmware update. 
I am from Argentina. 

since I did a factory reset, I first had recovered the Chromecast changing the date to a date before 8 March. 

then today, the update just executed alone

and now I am able to cast again.

en mi caso, como hice un reinicio de Fabrica, tuve que configurar el Chromecast con la fecha anterior al 8 de marzo..

luego esperé con el Chromecast conectado y la actualización se ejecuta sola.

How can you change the date if you did a factory reset like me and can't reconnect any more (because of the initial problem)? There's thousands of messages on this forum, so I'm unable to find the solution.

I’m very disappointed at this situation mainly because Google doesn’t give us a deadline to have the problem fixed. That’s terrible costumer service and it shows instability of the Company. 

Both mine are back in action! Thank you 🙏 

Tenho dois filhos pequenos e a única forma de assistir desenho em família e com o aparelho por favor resolver o mais rápido possível pois como não estava funcionando eu resetei o aparelho.

Não consigo acessar, infelizmente pensei que era um problema na minha internet e restaurei de fabrica. 

Podrian decir cuales son los proximos diaa por favor? veo que hay usuarios que ya solucionaron el inconveniente yo todavia no pude y no lo resetee a fabrica. .. es todo muy poco claro

How can we know when you guys fix this problème

Why is it taking so long?! Do you have a graduate in a broom cupboard working on the solution? Surely you must know the reputational damage this is causing!

I had reset mine, and we were able to reconnect it today.  Thank you very much for getting this worked out!

My chromecast is updated. Thanks to this community, I was able to restore the connection using old date. Thanks all for help!

Same here restored back from factory reset by backdating phone date to pre March 9th. Once connected and could see the Google pictures scroll through I was still unable to cast. Left Chromecast on and firmware update must have came through overnight. So all good now fully restored and casting.

I think google did it on purpose that we all will buy google tv stick. I bought amazon tv stick because it was 3 times cheaper than google. I thought my chromecast is broken🤦‍♂️ i wanted to buy new tv because i thought maybe he is broken because chromecast cant to connect to wifi. Its good that i didnt buy new tv🙄

Tentei configurar o dispositivo e não funciona é decepcionante não poder utilizar as funções de minha tv. Espero que resolva o mais breve possível 🙏🏻

Of course I did the factory reset since my Chromecast suddenly stopped working and I followed the steps for device problem solving that are advised by Google. Only on 13th of March in the evening I received an e-mail from Google to mention an issue and not to perform a factory reset. I hope Google will be able to fix this since the advisory step of a factory reset (only mentioned 3 days after my Chromecast stoped working to not to perform the factory reset at all even though it's advised as a problem solving solution) has let met to be blocked out and unable to receive the updates. If no solution is found then obviously all customers needs to receive a working new device.

Any fix for the Chromecast Ultra? Mine stopped working a few days ago. 

I tried restarting the modem, my phone, updating Google Home app and even did a factory reset on chromecast. Nothing helped. Here's the message I keep getting- 

Could not communicate with your Chromecast.

This is ridiculous. I’m paying for streaming services and I can’t stream because your certificate expired WTF!

I already did factory reset. What should I do?

How can we receive updates? 

I am thrilled to say that my Chromecast has updated and all my devices are synched now I can get out and enjoy the sunshine in my part of the world.

How much longer is this going to take? I rely on My chromecast daily and have been without for. Week now, this is just ridiculous! And yes, I tried a factory reset because that’s what we’ve also done with connection issues, so please fix too asap!

Zet je telefoon tijdelijk terug naar b.v. 3 maart handmatig schakel automatisch en tijdzone automatisch uit . Ga dan naar Google home en stel de Chromecast cast opnieuw in . Hou de inlog code voor je wifi bijdehand. Laat de Chromecast daarna aanstaan . En zet de telefoon weer terug naar automatisch en automatische tijdzone. Ik heb dit gisteren gedaan en vandaag de hele dag de Chromecast aan laten staan . De stroomkabel aangesloten dus en vanavond werkte alles weer perfect.
