Hi folks,
Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

This worked for my reset Chromecast:
"For all the factory reset people who are freaking out and asking "what do I do now?", this procedure will allow you to reconnect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, so that it can receive the firmware update fix that Google started pushing out on 3/13.
1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 7 or earlier.
2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast. You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Also, you can change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.
3) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. This should restore your Chromecast to full functionality.
Note: Supposedly it's being done as a "phased rollout", so it could take as long as several days for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast."

What do you mean by 'Your device must be connected to receive the update.' Does this mean I have to leave my tablet on all the time or do you mean the chrome cast connected - I am not tech savvy,
Thanks

When can we expect a fix if we have done a factory reset ?
03-14-2025 10:14 PM
Thank you, my Chromecast is working now.
I took the steps as advised by community and Google. I had factory reset my Chromecast when it stopped working so was not able to reconnect with it.
I changed the date on my mobile phone to 1st march and that allowed me to reinstall Chromecast on my television.
Initially nothing happened after that and I was back to where it stopped working on 7th March with Google photos on my screen but not able to connect my device.
I turned off the television and Chromecast and later turned them back on an hour later. The Chromecast automatically started updating, took a few minutes and is working now.

03-14-2025 10:22 PM
That's surprising
I presume you have factory reset your Chromecast.
So what happens when you try to reconnect to it using your mobile device??
03-14-2025 10:25 PM
Yes I did. Just says “something went wrong” please check privacy settings and ensure local network is turned on. Which it is turned on. Turned on and off restarted my phone as well.
03-14-2025 10:31 PM
Honestly can't say what's happening with your device
I use an iPhone, so needed to disable automatic time zone to change the date.
After that when I tried to connect it went through the cycle of messages on my television screen and I was able to reinstall. Chromecast

Whilst I can now connect to my Chromecast and enjoy YouTube videos from my iPhone, I can't actually sign-in to see my subscribed channels. I go to sign-in, and where the code is meant to be it just says Loading....
I also tried linking the TV again with the TV code under settings, but that didn't make any difference. I still can't sign into my account to view my subscribed channels or previous searches.
03-14-2025 10:39 PM
Well hurry up

What's the ETA for those already resetted?
