Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you!!!!!

You absolute star! This worked for me, thank you so much!

Thank you. It worked perfectly for me. My life is complete.

Grazie,ho fatto così e finalmente il mio Chromecast è tornato a funzionare.

You're a genius. I had factory reset my Chromecast II. Followed your instructions to "dummy" the system into thinking it was March 1, got the Chromecast running, it downloaded the security certificate update and now it's working! Google owes you $$

This actually just worked for me! Thank you

It actually works.

Thank you, it helped me 😊🙏🏼 and tonight I shared your text on Facebook groups for Denmark, I think it can help many who have had to reset their caster.
Good Evening to you!

Wow, It's work like magic

Leave your unit power up on your local Wi-fi network. It takes time for the google server to update the device

ESPERO RESPUESTA. DESDE YA MUCHAS GRACIAS.

Changing the date on my tablet to before the problem and re-installing my Chromecast Audio ( I performed a factory reset), fixed the problem. After fixing change the date back. Happy listening!

Please fix the chromecast as soon as possible, all my chromecast devices are not working yet.

Read the status updates pinned at the top of this page. Google started rolling out a firmware update fix yesterday.

If you've done a factory reset on any of your Chromecasts, you need to do this fix to allow them to receive the update:

As part of the recommended troubleshooting I am guessing I am not alone when I ‘reset’ the device - so now what? Will this be fixed? And when? This is very frustrating.

My son gave me his chromecast as he didn't need it anymore so he is getting the updates regarding the authentication issues and I'm not. How can I get the updates as my chromecast isn't working.

Did you perform a factory reset on yours? If so, then you'll need to do this procedure to allow it to receive the update:

I performed a factory reset, but, i take my phone and change the date to 6 of march of 2025 and enter the app google home. I tried to configure the chromecast and I got it, becouse the app use my local date for configuration.  You can make a specific application to give a fictitious date to the chromecast when configuring it.

I am sorry this response is in English, leave your unit on with your Wi-fi on, the google server will download the appropriate certificate, so your casting will work for all of your commercial apps.
