Hey folks,
If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.
If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

This is ridiculous. Over 100 million Chromecast sold worldwide and this is how you treat the customers. Definitely won't be buying Google TV if this is how you treat customers once you decide to retire a product line. Total Fail.

Set your phone's date manually earlier than march 9th ( march 3rd for example) then launch the setup procedure with Google home. It allows you to reconnect the Chromecast to wifi and receive the hot fix .

I did not "factory reset" but I still cannot complete setup. This device was not yet configured for the my new router. When my unit failed I tried this one...but unable to complete setup. Directly upon receriving the "connected" message... I get something to the effect of:
Something went wrong
You may have set up the unit ok, but there is no communication with iphone .
Informed to check "privacy settings" Local Network Access enabled... which it is..
Any help? My first unit now is working!! Thank You Thank You for the effort!! 🙂
...but this other unit as described, is not... do I wait for the factory reset info.. then factory reset my device and follow the soon to be released procedure?

If you do factory reset, change your smartphone date to March 8, try to setup the device with a new factory reset, once your device is connected it will receive the last update.
Once it is updated, you need to take back your smartphone's date back to today's date.
Factory reset it again and voila it connect and finish the setup wizard as a new device.

I've done that and I can see my Chromecast screen on my TV but my home app still isn't finding it and it did the update and everything they're just not connecting for some reason my home app can't define the device after it says it was connected help

Finally got mine working again today.
I had factory reset my Chromecast, this didn't help as I couldn't reconnect..
Changed mobile phone date back to 1st Marchand re-ran setup from Google hone, Chromecazt now connected.
Setup downloaded an update for Chromecast, this appears to have fixed thr bug!

I had factory reset my Chromecast. I set the date on my phone a month back and got the Chromecast back online and the update started immediately. Works great now, thanks again!
