Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Here’s the latest:

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Please set a back date of your phone manually. For example 8th March and then retry connecting process again. Dis will work.

Reset is the most usual thing we do when the device do not response. I have seen just your advice in red. To do reset could be harmful to solve the problem? Thanks for taking care of this.

Qué tal buenas tardes quisiera aportar lo siguiente y cómo resolví la actualización de mi dispositivo Chrome, lo que hice fue cambiar a la fecha del día 8 antes de la 1 de la tarde en mi dispositivo para ser más exacto en mi teléfono una vez que realicé esa parte y que reinicie y que reinicie mi Chromecast de fábrica decidí darlo de alta como una casa nueva esto lo que hizo fue de alguna manera engañar al dispositivo y hacerle creer que todavía no estaba la actualización por la cual dejó de funcionar una vez que lo di de alta como normalmente se hace se logró recuperar los códigos de acceso del Chrome así mismo comenzó a funcionar y actualizarse con la nueva versión para poder funcionar una vez terminado esto volví a cambiar la fecha de mi dispositivo y quedó reconocido y actualizado espero les sirva esta información puedan representarla en un proceso más simple y digno para toda la comunidad Google atentamente Pepito grillo

Hi everyone, for those who have problems installing updates I suggest changing the date on your phone to March 7, then start recording on Google Home from scratch, this way the update will be downloaded! 

Finally now it works again!

Nous sommes très choqués de cette panne. nous utilisons Chromecast tous les jours. On a passé une soirée complète à essayer de réparer en réinitialisant bien sûr. Nous demandons d’être dédommagés pour cette erreur de la part de Google…

Su iPhone ho disattivato data e ora automatica, è impostato una data antecedente al 7 Marzo, io ho messo il 5, poi ho fatto la normale installazione aggiungendo il nuovo dispositivo su Google Home e seguito la normale procedura che ha poi fatto partire subito l’aggiornamento. Poi si è riavviata la Chromecast ed è tornata a funzionare nel modo normale! Ricordati poi di riattivare la data e ora automatica sul telefono! Andrà bene!

The only way you get update from Google is if you are logged in to your Google account Top right corner in the Google home app shows it

In Google Home app, click on any Chromecast showing

Click on the gear Icon, and click on WiFi, select Forget WiFi

Para quem resetou padrão de fábrica Ajustem a data do telefone para antes da atualização coloquei 02/03 e refaça a configuração, aqui funcionou.

Gente eu desabilitei a data do celular e redefini para o dia 02/03 ( isso o telefone tá) baixei o app da home e configurei novamente pelo home.

Direi di muoversi con la soluzione per chi ha effettuato il reset perché credo che i possessori si dividano in 2 tipi: chi ha fatto il reset sperando di risolvere e chi ha i device chiusi in un cassetto dal 2019 e non sa assolutamente nulla di questa cagata...

Consegui recuperar pondo no celular para a data 07/03/2025 e reiniciei ele com padrão de fábrica e consegui recuperar ele!! Voltou a funcionar o espelhamento!! Li isso aqui com um usuário que postou!! E realmente voltou!!
