Not sure if this is already mentioned in the thread, but there's double failure here on Google's part because even the email they sent to Chromecast users about this problem ended up in spam folder... IN GMAIL!
Come on now!

Hello, good morning. I factory reset my second-generation Chromecast, and then I got an authentication error. What steps should I take to get it working?
03-16-2025 09:01 AM
Change your device date for 8th March or previous, try to connect Chromecast again, do the installation normally.
After that, it will get the update by itself. When finish, just put your phone back to the actual date. Hope it helps.

I FOUND a way to update my Chromecast Audio that I had made a factory reset on.
i have a chromecast ultra, that have a rj45 network connector connected to my router.
I tried plugged my Chromecast Audio to that powersource, and after 20 seconds it showed up in my google home app.
Now it playes music again!
03-15-2025 03:59 AM
Can't we force the update ? I saw a rollout procedure using activity manager to push the package com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsDebugAction
03-15-2025 04:29 AM
Yes, unplug the power for a few seconds and it tries to update. Repeat hourly till it works
03-15-2025 04:01 AM
What about those instructions if I've factory reset? My chromecast will not communicate with my phone still. Thanks, MD

If you are in a hurry, I got it to work this way:
Visit someone with a chromecast ultra. That power source that goes with have a rj45 connector. Just connect your chromecast, and when a network cable is pluged in from the powersource to the router, the chromecast will download the update. Takes 20 seconds. Now you can connect again.

>11.000 posts and nearly most of them total nonsense.
I would recommend a "read-only" thread by the Google Nest people with the necessary steps as any help in this thread will disappear in all these "doesn't work", "what can I do", "please help me" posts.

EXACTLY. There is a known fix to recover from a factory reset, and it's ridiculous that Google hasn't pinned that information to the top of this page. 90% of the people posting here are saying "I've done a factory reset, now what can I do?" or " any update on a fix for people who have done a factory reset??".
In the meantime, I've been posting the solution everywhere I can to help those affected:

Plus heaps of insults from people who invested 40 bucks a decade ago and are still expecting 24/7 personal service.

When is the fix coming for the factory reset devices? I am stuck now!
