If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Los que tiene iPhone vayan a la App Store actualizar Google home antes tener abierto chromecast en el TV una vez la app actualice enlacen su chromecast en la app otra vez y el se actualiza también no importa si lo había reseteado de fábrica ya lo arreglaron lo acabo de hacer y funciona perfectamente

Update:
Some users have reported here that Google has just released a new version of the Home app (currently for iPhone only) that addresses the "factory reset" hellscape that many are experiencing. I can see that there is a new version on the App Store from today 3/16, but I'm an Android guy so I can't confirm that it actually fixes this issue. That would be great. If true, then the answer is as simple as updating to the latest version of the Home app and then using it to re-setup your Chromecast.
Also, if true, I assume they'll be releasing the Android version soon.

I've got it working now and I went through factory reset. Someone in here wrote that changing the date could make it work.
I set the date back 1 month and was able to connect to/setup both my Chromecast and Chromecast Audio devices. The setup failed at "Before you use Google Assistent" screen. I went back (and left setup) but after closing Home completely, setting date to NOW and opening Home again, the devices showed up as LOCAL and I could then define name, add to rooms etc.

Just change your smart phone/iphone/tab date to 1st March 2025 and then connect chromecast..after connecting to Chromecast it will load an update form Chromecast and will connect to your wifi then you will be able to watch anything you want.i tried on my side and its working for me.

For a device that doesn't hold any user data or logins, it's quite logical to reset instead of troubleshooting the issue on internet. I am sure I am not the only one who did reset the device. Please provide a fix, I have not been able to use the device for 1 whole week now.

UPDATE:
I had performed factory reset and thus it wasn't working since the outage. Just last evening, 16th March ( India time), it's working all of sudden. All these days, it was plugged in and connected. The device is appearing in the home app now as well and available for casting.
Note: Few times, the device was showing default Google Screensaver photos but the device itself wasn't showing up in home app.
