If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Si transmites desde tu teléfono. Cambia la fecha de tu móvil a antes del día 10/03 . Entra a la app Home agrega el dispositivo cromecast como te indica y el wifi. Google hará el resto.

I have found a solution that seems to work if you have done a factory reset or your device needs to connect to new router prior to latest software update.
On android tablet or phone under settings general management set date and time manually to 7th March 2025. Disable automatic date set.
Then on that device open Google home and add device selecting name and preferred WiFi.
It will then proceed to set up device. Once connected leave for a few minutes for software update to install.
Once all completed you need to go back under settings general management date and time and set it to automatic.

I can not proceed further once my Chromecast device code appears on the screen but my Google Home app can not communicate with the device, even though the device name appears in Google Home app. I made factory reset but nothing has changed.

How long does it take for a fix? This is rediculous. I hope there’s some form of compensation for this inconvenience. I’m still waiting for it to be fixed on my end because of the factory reset I did when it wasn’t working. It’s been a full week? Doesn’t Google employ smart people

As part of the process to troubleshoot. Most of your users of gen 2 Chrome cast would've done a factory reset to try to fix the issue before the warning even went out. How long do you think it will take to resolve this issue for us. It's been roughly a week so far. Can we expect a resolution in the near future?

Try to set back the date to before 9/3 for the phone you using to configure the chromecast. Then the software will be uppdsted. It will work! It worked for me.

We reset the device before we knew about the issue. We now have it working. We deleted Home than reinstalled it. That worked and we were able to add our device

i have two Chromecast audio devices; one has recovered nicely, thanks....the other is 100% non-responsive. I left both turned on during this issue and did not attempted any factory reset. Could you please advise what to do with the non-responsive one. i have now tried turning on and off again, but there is no light - nothing. seems to be very dead.

Dear Google Nest team,
Prior to seeing this email regarding a fix, I did factory reset my Chromecast Audio. Now, it will not connect to my Google home set up. This includes the Google home app and the device that it was providing audio to. Please inform me when you have a fix for my situation.

I did the factory reset, before being advised not to...my chromecast is connecting to my Home app, but then I get the error message about authorisation still, more than a week after the initial failure.

It also corrected a bug in the Chromecast (2nd gen) that started in 2021 (I think), where the audio was fine, but the image was not casting ... so I had to use a splitter ... now I don't (fewer cables, fewer power sources).
