Hey folks,
If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

<span;>Premetto che non essendo a conoscenza del fatto che i tecnici di google stavano lavorando alla soluzione e della raccomandazione di non eseguire il reset del dispositivo alle impostazioni di fabbrica. Infatti dopo vari tentativi di ripristinare il dispositivo Chromecast, ho provato anche l'opzione di reset del dispositivo. Così facendo le impostazioni di rete del dispositivo sono state completamente azzerate. Il dispositivo non risultava essere più connesso a Internet e quindi irraggiungibile per eventuali aggiornamenti. Questo perché ovviamente io ho saputo tardivamente che il mio problema non era solo un mio problema ma che interessava migliaia di utenti. In breve in data 20250316 ho deciso di fare il seguente tentativo: avevo letto che per ristabilire la connessione con il dispositivo si poteva riportare lo smartphone ad una data precedente il giorno 20250308. Ho quindi usato uno smartphone vecchio, che ho riportato alla data del 20250307. Da Google Home ho ricreato l'ambiente per ospitare il dispositivo Ho poi eseguito la ricerca del dispositivo che Google Home ha trovato. Sono poi riuscito a completare la configurazione del chromecast aggiungendo il dispositivo alla rete domestica . Una volta completata la configurazione il chromecast ha scaricato degli aggiornamenti da Internet. Il dispotivo è tornato a funzionare normalmente

Change the date on your smartphone to a date before March 8, 2025. Try redoing the Chromecast 2 setup from Google Home this way.

My Chromecast is updated and working. I did the factory reset of the Chromecast by pressing the small button on the side till the light turned white. Then I entered the settings of my MOBILE PHONE and manually changed the date to 5th March 2025. The with the HOME App on the mobile I setup the Chromecast device. Within minutes the device was setup with the new UPDATE from Google automatically getting installed. I proceeded with manually changing the date back to the present date on my MOBILE PHONE. Thanks to each and every one in the community.

I did the same yesterday and finally got mines working. So I suggest everyone change their phone date and continue to set up your Chromecast as you normally would.

Gostaria de saber se vocês já tem uma data prevista pra poder os nossos aparelhos voltar a funcionar eu tenho logo dois aparelhos desses Chromecast 2 na minha residência e tipo estou sem usar devido esse problema de vocês que já faz um bom tempo que está com esse problema e uma equipe que a Google tem não solucionar isso rápido parece uma piada vocês tem que ter uma resposta pra seus clientes e usuários pois pedir paciência e compreensão é é algo que vai durar um dia ou dois no máximo mais já faz mais de uma semana e nada !

Ciao Simone. Prova a fare questo tentativo. Porta la data del tuo telefono ad un giorno precedente il giorno 8 Marzo 2025. Una volta fatto questo esegui la configurazione ex-novo da Google Home del dispositivo Chromecast. Tutto dovrebbe tornare a funzionare correttamente. Saluti

Processes if you made factory reset which I did and it worked,
1. Turn off automatic date and time on your phone.
2. Set the date to on or before March 7, 2025.
3. Set up your Chromecast as usual.
4. Wait for the system to update and follow their instructions.
5. Turn on an automatic date and time.
6. Connect the device you have set up.

Yes but I did do a reset
any up date on how to fix it after the factory reset? Mine has not been work ever since…..
when trying to connect it connects to its own network it makes its own network and does not connect to my network my Wi-Fi that’s the issue. It’s doing so I don’t know how you can fix that, but it won’t connect to my Wi-Fi, it says it does but then it makes its own network. Do you guys have any updates to send out emails? How’s it gonna go or are you just gonna send us all new ones

Set your phone date to 1st of March, then reconnect your device. It connects, gets the update, reboots and then it will work. After that set your phone's date back to automatic
