Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

Con la actualización nueva del FW. Poniendo el móvil a fecha 8 marzo 2025 y volviendo a emparejar, FUNCIONA!!!!

Solition in case of factory reset:

  • Set date to March 7 on your device where the Google Home App is installed
  • Add your chromecast 
  • After chromecast has been added it will be updated with the latest (fixed) version and working.

I am told that I need to update my Google home app because my Google home app version ends in a five and it should end in a six. So when I go to the Google app store and open up my Google  apps ..the Google app says it's up to date. So how am I supposed to update it?

I think a majority of people hit the reset button on the Chromecast as myself. So far, it is still acting the same as of today, which is March 17, 2025.  Is there an anticipated resolution time for those That factory reset the device?

I have performed a factory reset for my Chromecast audio, because my previous wifi was no longer available. I still cannot re-setup the device. Also tried to tweak with the date, as propised on this thread. After that Google Home did actually find my chromecast audio device, but in the end it claimed that my phone and chromecast audio were not using the same wifi network.

So the issue still exists.

Try setting your Date back to Sat March 8 and then set up your chrome cast. It should update and start working again. You can change back the time after set up is complete 

Der er automatisk gennemført en opdatering på vores Chrome cast. Vi har dog stadig problemet og vi har ikke opdateret fabriksindstillingerne. 

FOR THOSE WHO DID FACTORY RESET

I found a loop hole where if you set your time and date on your device to Sat. March 8 and then try to set up your chrome case it will update and start working again. You can change the time and date back to current after the chromecast is set up 

Unfortunately itdoesnot work for me. My WiFi does not work when I change to a former date

I used a tablet when I changed mine.. not sure if that made a difference?

I was travelling and at a hotel at the time when this issue happened, I thought it was a connection issue like occasionally happens - so unfortunately I did a factory reset & so I can’t update device through google home… it’s really frustrating & id like it fixed please

On your device try setting your date and time back to March 8. Then do your set up for chrome cast, it should update. Once it's set up you can change the time back to current. I found this worked for me

Still no update?? On Thursday you said the "next few days". STILL WAITING! Meanwhile, I'm still paying for all of my streaming channels, but am unable to to actually WATCH THEM!!!! This is not ok. It's actually BS. I'll give you til Wednesday, then it's Goodbye Chromecast Hello Roku. Not that you actually give a 💩.

Check other comments. You can set your phone date to 8 of march, connect chromecast and then adjust date on your phone.

still having problems. don't understand what to do. I'm an old man.

I hope the Chromecast Audio will be fixed that I can see the devices in apps that I use for music  ie mediamonkey 5 and plexamp

Because at the moment - even though I can get them visible in app Google Home, Devices,  some are accessible in device information and others advised they are offline when checking  Device Information.
