Worked out better value for me to but a new 50" Google TV with 5 years in home warranty than upgrade to a newer chromecast.

If only there was a new version of the Chromecast Audio.

There isn't new version. Chromecast audio has been discontinued.

But the Google streamer is just the same as casting. I have a number of fav apps that are included in the standard install

That's what I think

I hope they fix this asap. I bought a new chrome cast product and it is so confusing to set up. I have worked on installing the product and it is  very confusing. Needless to say I want my old one to work…plug it in and follow simple instructions and it worked great. Please fix asap! Thank you, Phyllis Bull

if Google had to pay us compensation of even 20 dollars to all user 🤑 This is unacceptable for a company like Google, just for one line of programs!! We paid for a service that is not up to scratch.

A 50 dolares serían USS 1000 millón.

More like millions.

Google itself says it's sold 100 million Chromecast devices. While not all will be the now problematic second generation ones, a very large number, including mine, are broken since 10 March 2025.

A certificate that never expires would be security hole. Let's not play armchair engineers.

In an solid engineering environment the expiry would have been tracked and a new certificate ready (or even pushed prior to) an expiration that might just cause a worldwide outage.

Yeah this is a huge inconvenience!! I was trying literally everything going crazy! Good thing I didn’t factory reset it though

Elon must be evolved 🤣🤣

To be fair, these certificates are there to prevent security and vulnerability issues and hacking from outside actors. It's annoying that this is a problem, but getting on their case about it isn't helpful.

Maybe they could use Google AI to schedule renewal of certificates.

We are talking about a $35 unit from like 7 or 8 years ago right??   Not trying to be a **bleep** but at this point I am amazed they are even still servicing it especially given they don't even carry this product anymore.

Just saying I think it's fair to be a bit more relaxed about this.   I know mine has paid for itself like 5 times over at this point.   I'm delighted to find out they are still even keeping it functional on their end.

I get your point some comments sound privileged and pretty.

But my chromecast audio devices are feeding a 40 year old NAD amp and a 50 year old Marantz amp.  Both are going strong.  A device should work until its hardware fails, not its software.

I personally have achieved perfection in everything I do.  So should Google and everyone else.

Google shill spotted. You heard the man, goy! Now go buy new ones! Muwahahahah

Nailed it.
Should have been basic blocking & tackling.
….not rocket science

Certificates expire, it's just the nature of how they work.  They need to add a new certificate and rebuild schedule to an automated release process, or at least give us the option to ignore an expired cert

Yeah I’m not sure how they’ll fix that .  The issue is Netflix/Youtube/ETC are using the IP:9003 ( or another port ) with SSL and that the CC cert expired so your browser or app can’t validate the CC certificate… hence the “unauthorized” error message … but that’s been stated in a few posts here and Reddit .

I agree and wonder how this will be rectified. i am not really confident it will be fixed without asking the device owner to do some custom weird workflow.

Millions.

I would say millions

Millions for sure. I work for a business providing support to hotels including 1000s of CC alone. Add to that all the domestic users and the fact it's global! It's crazy that not only have they allowed this to happen but that it isn't fixed 4 days later!

Its true, the maniac to use ssl everywhere has this inconvinience.
Please be aware that not always is possible to use ssl, and for older equipments that manufactor or supplier dies it will get terrible when ssl expires and nobody fix's it.

Ssl is safe but also a pain in the ass.

It a shame that google as not predicted this before.
