What should I do? When it stopped working, I reset it to factory settings to try to fix it. Now I won't be able to use it anymore?
03-12-2025 04:39 PM
Y para cuando la solución!!!!
03-12-2025 04:40 PM
Maybe you could email people?! Who checks this? Already factory reset.

Hi, badly needed help connecting back my chromecast.
It suddenly stopped connecting on both my Android and iPhone.
I have restarted my router, on and off tv, unplugged and plugged the Chromecast but it’s saying offline on iPhone and can’t find it on Android. Then finally rebooted the device, I thought it all working okay as managed to reset it up on Home App but error came after reaching wifi connection successfully, error popped up “it may be set up, but could not communicate with your iPhone” and on Android “can’t authenticate your Chromecast”.

Im having the same issues. This started like 2 or 3 days ago . looks like huge problem every since that hack attack on US
03-12-2025 05:18 PM
03-12-2025 04:45 PM
Nos notificarán cuando lo solucionen?
03-12-2025 04:46 PM
.
03-12-2025 04:47 PM
It’s a bit late to tell us not to perform a factory reset bcuz of course I ended up doing that within a few hours of the first day it happened! Why didn’t you warn us sooner like within the first hour of you discovering the problem?! I hope I can fix my chromecast it’s the only one I have and use!!
03-12-2025 04:51 PM
03-12-2025 04:51 PM
What day was this issue?
03-12-2025 04:50 PM

I can confirm that the workarounds posted on Reddit and elsewhere will indeed restore Gen2 casting from Android devices and Chrome browser (sorry, iPhone users). I had mine back up 'n running by Monday morning. Not perfect, but for those who are impatient (and reasonably tech-savvy), it's a viable option until Google issues a proper security certificate fix.

My Chromecast device still isn't working. Unfortunately, I already reset the device to factory settings before reading this message. I'm waiting for instructions on how to resolve the problem.
Thank you very much.

Great! I had trouble getting my chrome cast to connect yesterday so rather than researching I just reset everything, after trying for 45 mins I gave up. I tried again today and it sauced connected followed by “something went wrong”. Then I clicked on help and all info brought me here. Well what do you know, it’s not just me. Okay, make it quick because I got a lot of tv watching to do lol

The situation is more than frustrating with 20 million devices sold worldwide Google should fix it ASAP and offer something for all the unnecessary issues!
Google needs to be more transparent and take care of the customers!
I will think twice before I get another device from Google!!!
03-12-2025 04:53 PM
No Netflix or Crave for me for a while.
03-12-2025 05:08 PM
Sur ordi mais c'est pas le top
03-12-2025 04:55 PM
Is this a more difficult task than landing on the moon? How long will it take to solve the problem?
03-12-2025 05:32 PM
It took 6 years to send the Americans on the moon if I’m not mistaken … I doubt google will take 6 years to solve this !
03-12-2025 04:55 PM
Porfavor! Avisen... Es una basura la televisión argentina...
03-12-2025 04:57 PM
So " instructions are coming" on this issue. How will I get the instructions - an email, or text? Where do I go for the instructions?

You're in the right place. Any informational updates from Google will be pinned at the top. Just keep this page open and get used to using your Refresh button. Or, bookmark this page and check back periodically.

Hi, what happen if I did factory reseted my device before the "do not factory reset your device" instruction was shared ????
Please I would like to know if my chromecast is dead or what since I reseted it... thanks!
03-12-2025 05:02 PM
It's not fatal! Just changethe date to before the bug arrived. This will allow you to complete the setup process, then you have to wait for an update from Google like the rest of us 😞
03-12-2025 05:05 PM
Just set your phone's date back in time to March 8th, then try setting it up. It should at least get it back online so you'll get the fix when it comes out.
03-12-2025 05:09 PM
It didn't work & I tried several times. Online posts stated that it wouldn't work for most

How could anyone have avoided doing a factory reset? Things that were working fine suddenly stopped, all the Chromecasts in my house weren’t working, and I hadn’t received any emails or notifications explaining what was going on.
So, following the instructions in the FAQ provided by Google, a factory reset seemed like the only option. It felt strange, and I was even considering buying a new one, but as a last resort, I checked Reddit—only to find out that the issue was on Google’s end.
I wonder how many users managed to avoid doing a factory reset during those two days.

My Chromecast is only 5 years old and it suddenly stopped working. The only thing I can assume is it is related to the issue in this thread. I find it beyond belief that you tell customers not to factory reset as if that's helpful now. After restarting my network and the Chromecast, every help article suggests the next step is factory reset. Who reads through every thread to try and find the exact issue (which I could not find anyway) before doing the most recommended troubleshooting step. I now own a useless brick and have to monitor this thread for a fix and hope it works after a factor reset (not even sure how you will fix after a factory reset if I can't connect). One thing for sure I'll never replace Chromecast. The fact you can just abandon thousands of hardware customers and leave us in limbo if or when you will fix is not acceptable. I'm reminded of the horrendous Sonos update where I lost the use of expensive hardware for months. Never replace them either.

I already tried this or i wouldn't bring here posting. That didn't work on BOTH Chromecasts
03-12-2025 05:00 PM
Please let us know when you expect to fix this. Thank you.
