My factory reset Chromecast is now working. Mind you I did the setup with my date rolled back to the 7th and everything went well and it completed the setup, which it wasn't doing previously. Then set my date back to normal. Cast Netflix from my iPhone perfectly. I'm not sure that I needed to set my date back to setup. I suppose I should have tried that first. Might be worth a try.

03-14-2025 12:55 PM
Just got my reset Chromecast to setup. I setup with my iPhone date set to the 7th and the setup went perfectly. Then set the date to proper date all all is good again.

03-14-2025 12:51 PM
I confirm my Chromecast audio is working again 🙂
03-14-2025 12:52 PM
I get no message at all, I cannot cast anything, e.g. Google TV, Prime, YouTube. It just won't connect to Cromecast all, flashes and that's it?
03-14-2025 12:54 PM
It works now. Thank you!
03-14-2025 12:58 PM
I was one of those people that performed a factory reset, before I saw this post.
But I was able to reconnect the Chromecast to my WiFi, by changing the date on my phone back to February 28th. Then configure the chromecast via the Home app.
03-14-2025 01:00 PM
Ok I have got mine working. This what I did, it's Android only. I hope it helps.
1. Switch on the Chromecast connect to your TV
2. Put the Android phone date back to 7th March.
3. Switch on Bluetooth and the hotspot on the phone (my phone is my WiFi)
4. Open Google Home, add device
5. It should find the Chromecast and switch on WiFi if prompted
6. Assigned the WiFi name & password to the Chromecast.
7. It may take a couple of goes but it should eventually get the wallpaper up.
Now your back to where we where on Sunday evening. On the WiFi but no streaming.
8. Put the phone back to today date.
9. Leave the Chromecast switched on for 30mins.
10. Switch off the Chromecast, I left it off for an hour.
11. Switch the Chromecast back on and it should join the WiFi, then leave it. Mine started an update
12. Once the update was done, I force stopped Google Play Services app on the phone.
13. Open Google home on the phone and the Chromecast was there and I am back streaming.
I wish everyone luck

Yes, that pretty much summarizes it.
Just one thing on #10. In my case both Chromecasts received the fixed after I turned them off and on without waiting more than 10 secs.

03-14-2025 01:01 PM
Thank you for getting it done. My two CC units updated and all is fine again.
03-14-2025 01:02 PM
Finally sorted for me in the UK.
This may help others.
1 I did the routine to get them back connected to Google by setting the date on my phone to the 8th of March. Like around 99% of people I had already done a factory reset before seeing Google's rather lame and belated 'do not factory reset warning'.
2 I left both connected to a mains power source, NOT a USB port on the TV's which go dead when the TVs are off.
3 Kept resetting them, though NOT a full factory reset, just unplugging the power and plugging back in.
4 Then on doing this tonight at about 7pm (GMT) first one then the other both updated, shut themselves down and applied the update.
All working fine....

FIXED!
Today I have reconnected my device to internet by setting my phone on a date before March 9, 2025. Then closed the Home app. Opened it again and set up the Chromecast V2.
Once it is set up and therefor connected with internet, you can turn your phone to automatic date again and simply wait for the google firmware-update, keeping the device on power and consequently connected with the internet!
And just now at 20:35 CET, strictly coincedentally while I was busy with an alternative device, my Chromecat V2 suddenly connected and is enabled to cast as it used to. Finally!
Nice day to you all!

Its working 🙂🙂🙂

Funziona tutto bene.

I have two Chromecast Audio devices. I factory reset one before discovering this thread. After noticing my non-reset device reappeared, I decided to try reconnecting the other one. During setup, the phone repeatedly timed out when attempting to join the Chromecast's ad-hoc Wi-Fi network. However, manually connecting to that network allowed the setup process to complete smoothly.
Huge thanks to everyone involved in deploying this fix, you're amazing!

Bit late with this announcement. Already factory reset my chromecast audio. Even tested with a 2.4 wifi only ssid. Pitty only older devices have this issue, cause it feels like teasing so people buy newer devices.
Hope for a quick fix, cause my home office is now without music to keep my working spirrit uit.
Almost bought a SonosOne just cause I was done with chromecasts failing to connect. Its not the first time there are issues.
But I'll wait and see if this can be fixt in time.

I did a factory reset and had to play with the date and time but it's working again!

I live in the PNW (U.S.) and the update happened sometime in the last few hours. I have been leaving my tv on, to ensure the Chromecast remained active (not sure if that was necessary or not).
I noticed a bit ago that some of the information in the Google Home app had changed, but my phone was still not connecting to the Chromecast. So, I turned my tv off then back on again, and the issue was completely fixed. I can cast from my phone again!
For those wondering, I was one of the users who had originally done a factory reset, before I came to learn this was a universal issue for Gen2 Chromecasts. I used the instructions provided by many users, including here:https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Streaming/Regarding-an-issue-with-Chromecast-2nd-gen-and-Chro....
Thank you GoogleNest Team!
