Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Je smartphone datum op 8/3 zetten.

Je chromecast volledig opnieuw installeren. Je zal zien dat hij terug geverifieerd word. Ondertussen mag je de datum terug naar huidige datum veranderen. Rustig wachten tot hij volledig geupdated is terug. Kan snel maar ook een dag of 2 overgaan. Bij mij 2 dagen dacht ik. Ikzelf had ook fabriek recet gedaan. Door deze methode werkt hij terug perfect

I was able to update my Chromecast 2.0 by changing the date on my smartphone to March 7, 2025. I then started the firmware update to complete the fix. Thank you Google team, despite the delay in sending us the fix.

Je smartphone datum op 8 maart zetten. Chromecast volledig opnieuw installeren of beginnen met zowel Google Home. 

Chromecast woord terug betekenisvol. Ondertussen mag je de datum terug naar huidige datum veranderen Beetje geduld tot hij volledig geupdate is. 

Kan snel maar ook een dag van 2 overgaan. Daarna kun je terug genieten van je chromecast en streamen

I had to make a factory reset as i though the problem was this one. I have the latest version of google Home. Even like this its still not working please help as soon as possible its been a week without chromecast now

Hola, no me es posible descargar la última versión de Google Home desde mi celular. Con lo cual sigo sin poder utilizar el chromecast

Thank everyone for your help with Chromecast audio connection after reset. I changed date manually on my phone to march 7th. Connected to Chromecast audio and failed the last step of connecting to wifi. I rebooted Chromecast audio. Restarted phone. Rebooted WiFi routers. Then reconnect with Chromecast audio, change date to auto from network and connected to wifi using wps setup. This has got my music back on. I have connected successfully after Chromecast audio factory reset. I like to thanks everyone for their time and effort. Thank you. Mustafa Saeed

You must change The date of you Phone Before 9 March and open Google Home App.  Your dongle will download un update and will work again

How fix it 

"Your device must be connected to receive the update." Connected to what WIFI/GOOGLE HOME APP?

Using Google Home v3.30.1.6  goes through set up ok but will not connect to wifi on last stage (I can see it on my router connected to WIFI but not in google home!

How do I update my Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6)  mine is 3.30.1.5.  I cannot find any place to get an update.
