You send an email with a link to this announcement 3 days after the incident and after I reset my device?!
I hope my device can be salvaged. Maybe in the future, get the email sent out to users on the day the incident that occurred and not 3 days later!

For all the factory update people who are freaking out :
Temporarily set the date on your smartphone to March 8 or earlier. Then use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast. Once it's back online, sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. Supposedly it's going to be a phased rollout, so it could take as long as several days for the firmware update to hit your device. Patience.

I can't set up my chromecast anymore after I did a full factory reset. I keep getting the message "Can't communicate with your Chromecast"
03-13-2025 08:55 AM
So you just found out it's a 2nd gen Chromecast?
03-17-2025 08:19 AM
Someone else added my ticket to this question. When I enter the id from the chromecast I come from the third generation. 7114103ODVUN. But I'm new here so I'll just wait here.

No worries, just set the date on your phone to March 8th or earlier, and setup the device through the Google Home app like normal. The update is supposedly rolling out right now, just slowly. Going through the Google Home setup basically just reconnects it to WiFi so it can receive the update, whenever that may happen. You can put your phone back to the normal date after.
03-13-2025 02:37 PM
Worked. Thanks
03-14-2025 05:49 AM
Heb ik gedaan Bedankt 👍
03-14-2025 06:25 AM
Nu nog de Update van Google ontvangen. Chromecast werkt weer op WiFi.
03-13-2025 02:17 PM
Well I'm sorry, because you were so slow in getting this info out to me. I have, as per your trouble shooting advice tried factory resetting both my 2nd generation chromecasts. Now what?
03-13-2025 02:18 PM
I’m still having trouble with setup my device after performing a factory setup and waiting for your feedback. How can I check my device to be sure if it’s (2nd gen) or not. Thanks
03-13-2025 02:20 PM
my chromecast no longer syncs with my phone.
03-13-2025 02:22 PM
03-13-2025 02:23 PM
Top late I have restarted usine paramétrer twice before seeing jour message, we are 13 March and t'he problem is not resolved
03-13-2025 02:22 PM
I reset before I knew how can I fix it?
03-13-2025 02:23 PM
It took you 5 days to recognize the error and during those 5 days you recommended restarting the Chromecast.
03-13-2025 02:27 PM
How will you let us know when this has been fixed?
03-13-2025 02:28 PM
The first thing 80% of people who use it regularly did, was the Factory Reset. Now please fix the problem.
