Remote & Accessories ---> Set Up Remote Buttons

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my Google Chromecast remote. It was working fine when I first set it up, but now it won't turn on my Insignia TV. It can turn the TV off, but not on. I've checked the settings under Remote & Accessories, but there are no options to set up my TV again. I've unpaired and repaired the remote three times, but that hasn't fixed the problem. The remote works to navigate, but not for the volume or power buttons.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! 😊

Did you try updating the remote as it looks like an update is available?

If you select "Set up remote buttons", that menu will let you redo the setup?

Does not work. You click it and it takes me back to home screen on google tv chromecast. It was working just fine until a couple weeks ago

Hi David, I noticed that when I did a hard reset on the Google Chromecast device itself. It works now but my only issue now is that I cannot turn on my TV with the remote. It does everything else except turn on my TV so I have to have the original TV remote on standby to turn on the TV. Any suggestions?

Mine is both the volume and on/off buttons. The on/off only does the function to the actual chromecast but not the actual tv itself. So, tv is left on but chromcast turns off and on with remote

Have you tried doing a hard reset on the actual Google Chromecast? That seems to work for me by I just can't turn on the TV.

Really want to avoid having to do that because i have it configured exactly how I need it(chromecast). If i reset it will clear and delete everything.

I guess I fixed the issue, just one thing. When I use my google assistant to turn the TV on it wont do it, but when I tell it to turn it off it does.. Any explanation for that?

mine did not work at all. It is still the same. I did not have any remote update for it. It was working just fine before. Mine the volume and power buttons will not do anything. I really want to avoid having to do a hard reset of device. Software is up to date also.

Hi folks,

@Anonymous, thanks for keeping us in the loop. It might have been the update that helped. You can probably perform a sequential reboot for each device (TV, Chromecast device, etc.) to refresh communication.

@Jr999999999, kindly check if you already have the July patch update. If it still persists despite the update, there could be missing modules. I suggest trying a factory reset, then setting it up again. Ensure that you pair the remote with the TV as well.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

I have no updates for my device. I really need to avoid the factory reset. I click on remote and accessories then I click Set up remote buttons and it just jumps to the home screen every time. Ive restarted device. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled remote and nothing seems to work. It was working just fine a few months back until now.

Hi Jr999999999,

I understand your hesitation to perform the factory reset, but if there’s a need for us to do a full clean-up, we may need to do so. There could be corrupted/missing modules, which prevents your device from getting the updates. I strongly suggest we proceed with the factory reset. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

What brand and model of TV do you both have?

In both cases, you're saying power, input, and volume controls all worked before the recent update?

LG OLED

Hi folks,

Normslovesya and Jr999999999, thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the delay. Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

  1. Check for pending remote software updates. Go to Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Remote update > Continue. The remote might briefly disconnect during the software update.
  2. Forget/unpair the Chromecast Voice Remote. Go to  Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Chromecast Remote > Forget.
  3. Pair the remote. Go to  Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Pair remote or accessory, then follow the instructions on the TV.
Note: If applicable, press the button on the Chromecast device for one second to start to pair.

Check out this link for more information.

Thanks for the help here, davidking.

Regards,
