When paired to a Bluetooth speaker, I see there are two ways to switch between the hdmi output and the Bluetooth. One is the dedicated audio output menu. The other is the traditional way, disconnecting the speaker in the Bluetooth menu.
My remote volume button is set to IR mode. I just found out that when connecting to a Bluetooth speaker, the remote would disable the IR feature automatically, change the Steamer's system volume instead and does nothing to my TV as I press the button. This is perfect.
The issue is, when I want to switch back to the TV (hdmi output), if just set it in the audio output menu, the IR of the remote would not come back (audio goes TV correctly). Thus I cannot control my volume. I must go to the Bluetooth menu and disconnect the speaker. Then the IR mode comes back.
So I think the IR mode should come back when selecting the hdmi in the audio output menu, no need to disconnect the speaker every time. If the remote button is in CEC mode not IR mode, no this issue. I don't need to disconnect the speaker.

Hi frozenwind,
Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing inconveniences with the IR mode not returning when selecting HDMI as the audio output. I understand how inconvenient it is to have to disconnect the speaker in the Bluetooth menu to regain IR mode functionality. Help's here!
Based on the information, it seems that you have the Google TV Streamer device. Can you please confirm that? To continue investigating the inconvenience, I'd like to ask the following:
In the meantime, I'd suggest the following:
Ensure your Streamer device and the Bluetooth speaker have the latest firmware updates installed. Updates often include bug fixes and improved compatibility. For the Google TV Streamer, you can find this information in the article: Chromecast and Google TV Streamer firmware versions and release notes.
Additionally, you can check out this article for additional troubleshooting tips: Troubleshoot the Chromecast Voice Remote.
Keep me posted.
Best regards,
Jenniffer

yes it's Google Streamer. The speaker is Echo Studio. It's the latest firmware, no update available.

What do you mean by "Do you see any lights on the Google Streamer"? The power light on the Streamer is definitely on and it has nothing to do with the volume button. Do you mean by the IR emitter? I am sure that the IR emitter does not work when selecting HDMI output.
No other ways to solve it except for using CEC mode or disconnecting the Bluetooth speaker. I believe it is a bug. Choosing HDMI audio output should have the same result as disconnecting the Bluetooth (enable IR on the remote). Please give this feedback to the development team.
