Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. A few questions: could you tell us more about this “project” that you mentioned? Is this a projector that has a built-in speaker? Or a projector that has an audio-out feature that can be connected to an amplifier or speakers? Or is this project thing an actual audio device attached to a TV as an external audio out?
I suggest you isolate it by connecting your Chromecast 1st Gen to a TV (with its built-in speakers) and observe if the same behavior persists.
And please be reminded that support for Chromecast 1st Gen has ended, which means these devices no longer receive software or security updates, and Google doesn't provide technical support for them. Users might notice a degradation in performance.
