Temporary wifi connection

Hiya

I have an old 3rd generation chromecast that suddenly stopped working.

I tried doing a factory reset and a few other things but nothing worked. So I deleted the device thinking ll will just add it back in.

But now when I try to add it back/do a device set up, I do not get the option to choose my wifi connection. It appears to automatically try to set up a temporary connection.

All the help I've read tells me to select the device and remove the temporary connection.

But I can't select the device becausev ts not set up yet.

How do I stop ithe set up process from trying to set up the temporary connection.

Ps i also have uninstaller and reinstalled Home

And I've done numerous factory resets on the chromecast device

Ive also reset my routrr multiple times

Hi @Shellz1234,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest community. I'm sorry to hear your Chromecast 3rd Gen stopped working. I'm happy to help you right now.

I appreciate your effort in performing troubleshooting steps to isolate the problem with your Chromecast. To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • Could you please let me know what the Chromecast firmware version is?
  • Are you using an Android or iPhone device to set it up?
  • How far from the router is your Chromecast?
  • What Wi-Fi frequency band do you try to connect to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a change in the Wi-Fi network or recent outages?
  • What's your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ISP speed?
  • What's the router brand and/or model?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela
