Robbiebus

I want to cast a photo from Google Photos to my Chromecast with Google TV(HD edition). When casting a photo, after 5 to 10 minutes casting is away and you will see the home screen of the Chromecast.

How can i resolve that? I want to cast a photo for at least 1 tot 2 hours.

Who can help me?

Hello @Robbiebus,

Thanks for reaching out about your Chromecast with Google TV (HD edition) stopping photo casting after 5–10 minutes. I understand how frustrating it is when you want to display photos for a longer duration. I appreciate the information and your effort.

Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Check Device Sleep Settings: Ensure your phone or casting device (where Google Photos is running) isn't set to go into sleep mode after a short period of inactivity. This can interrupt the casting session.
  2. Update apps and Chromecast: Make sure you have the latest versions of the Google Photos app and Chromecast firmware installed. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements that might resolve the issue.

Please follow the steps above and see if they fix the issue. Please let me know how it goes. Thank you.

I have the latest version of Google Photos and Chromecast. and sleep mode are turned off. I already checked that too.

Its like an inactive timeout. When there's no activity on the Chromecast, it will go back to the home screen.

The stay away option is off. It looks like a setting of 5 minutes of inactivity

Hello @Robbiebus,

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate you reaching out.
It seems you are casting from your cellphone to your TV, so when your cellphone turns off, your Chromecast starts broadcasting the home screen of the Chromecast. Let's try the steps below:

Ambient Mode settings
To adjust your Ambient Mode settings:

  1. Open the Google Home app. Google Home app.
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right corner, tap Settings.
  4. Scroll down, tap Ambient Mode, then tap Google Photos, and choose the one you want to cast.

You can also add or remove albums by following the steps listed below:

  • Add or remove albums.
  • Open the Google Home app. Google Home app.
  • Tap and hold your device's tile.
  • At the top right corner, tap Settings.
  • Scroll down, then tap Ambient Mode in Google Photos.

You can also check out this link: Ambient Mode for Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra for more information.

Please let me know how it goes. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. But that option doesn't help my problem.

I want to share 1 picture from my cellphone. I just select 1 photo in Google Photos and cast to my TV. Thats works.

But after 5 minutes, the picture is gone and you will see the start screen of Chromecast.

See photo: https://photos.app.goo.gl/jRvTrMUAEL2xi4o6A

My cellphone was on.

So it looks like a 5 minutes (inactive) setting in the Chromecast

Hello @Robbiebus,

Thanks for posting in the community.

I appreciate that you have taken the time to follow the steps I posted. Thank you for mentioning that your cellphone is on after the 5 minutes are gone, so let's try with the next steps:

  • Go to settings.
  • Tap system
  • Choose power and energy.
  • You will have to choose for how long you would like to have your Chromecast on.

Below, you will find:

  • Developer options
  • Choose to stay awake.
  • Turn on

Try casting your photo using the Google Home app instead of directly from Google Photos. The Home app might offer a more persistent casting experience.

Casting a Photo Using the Google Home App:

  1. Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Locate your Chromecast device. You should see a tile with your Chromecast's name and icon on the home screen.
  3. Tap on your Chromecast tile. This will open a control panel for your Chromecast.
  4. Tap the "Cast screen or audio" button. It might be represented by an icon resembling a rectangle with a Wi-Fi symbol in the corner.
  5. Select "Photos" from the casting options. This will open your Google Photos library on your phone.
  6. Choose the photo you want to cast. Tap on the desired photo to select it.
  7. Tap "Cast" (or a similar button, depending on your device) to start casting the photo to your Chromecast.

By following those steps, you should be able to cast a picture for a longer period of time. Please let me know how it goes. Thank you.

Dear Jorge,

Stay awake and power and energy settings already check, but that's not working. I configure both option (30 minutes energy/power settings, but still after 5 minutes back to home screen.
Castig from Google Home app looks beter, but the picture I want to cast is not full screen if you mirror your screen.
