Turn Off Shared Controls

Has the option to turn off shared controls been removed? I recently contacted Google for help and the gave me the same instructions as the tutorials. They all say go to the home app, go to your devices , go settings and turn off shared controls.

I remember doing this on my old device however there is no longer a setting option when you choose your device (long press doesn't work either). In settings there is no shared controls either.

In my phones settings under "Google" the only option is to take media controls away completely and that's not what I want

Hello @Chikob

Thanks for reaching out to the community, and I also thank you for posting about the problem you are having with Turn Off Shared Controls.  It seems like the option to turn off shared controls for Chromecast media playback might have been removed or relocated in recent updates. Here are some workarounds you can try:

  1. Double-check the Google Home App:
  • Open the Google Home app and ensure you're on the latest version.
  • Try tapping on your Chromecast device icon instead of long-pressing. There might be a settings option within the device menu itself.
  • Explore all the menus and settings within the Google Home app related to your Chromecast. The option might be under a different name now.
  1. Cast media control notification:
  • Check if you're receiving media control notifications on other devices on your network. These notifications might have an option to disable them permanently.
  • Look for the notification when you're casting media and see if it has settings or options to turn off future notifications.
  1. Individual app settings:
  • Some media streaming apps might have their own settings related to casting and device controls. Explore the app settings within the specific app you're casting from (e.g., Youtube, Netflix) and see if there's an option to disable casting controls on other devices.
  1. Community forums and Google Support:
  • Search online forums like the Google Nest Community for similar recent experiences. Other users might have encountered the same change and found alternative solutions.
  • Contact Google Support again and explain that the previous instructions don't work with the current app version. They might be able to provide updated guidance or confirm if the functionality has been removed entirely.

Hopefully, one of these approaches will help you regain control over media casting from other devices on your network.

Regards,

Helio.
