Hello,
I am the tech coordinator of a school that uses Chromecast in our classrooms. I recently tried to install a new device and it got as far as the update and it dropped connection. I was able to take it home and update it and get it working in the classroom. We think it may be something with our school-wide filter and we have a ticket in with them. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and/or if there is anything on the Google end we should be looking at.

If it worked without issue at your home, it's highly likely your internet filter or firewall at school is blocking something Chromecast needs to function.
