Video stutter across all apps

RealMikeT

Video sometimes goes into an unwatchable stutter. Audio is not affected. It can happen in any app and I haven't been able to put together any consistent reason that causes it. The only thing that seems to correct it is a system restart... Obviously not ideal when in the middle of watching a game or something.

Same issue here with the Google TV Streamer. For me, it happens when using the device for 30-60min after it hasn't been used for a day. Stuttering occurs across all apps and can even be noticed when navigating the Google TV UI. Audio not affected. Only resolved by restarting from settings. The issue will then reoccur the next day I use the device.

I did a factory reset last night in hopes that will resolve it, but it seems to be a memory leak from either an app or the device itself. As the stuttering starts occurring when streaming from seemingly any app, I'm leaning towards it being a memory leak with the device itself, or possibly a background app.

Hello folks,

Thank you for taking an interest in our community. I’m sorry to hear that the video stutters across all the apps when you use the Google TV Streamer 4K. Don’t worry; I’m here to help.

I appreciate that you have taken action by performing some troubleshooting steps. To continue getting to the root of the trouble, could you please help me by answering these questions?

  • How close are the devices to each other? (The Chromecast and Wi-Fi router)
  • When did the problem start?
  • Has the Google TV Streamer 4K firmware been updated?
  • Are you using an HDMI-certified 2.1 cable to connect the Google TV Streamer?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel

Hi,

My answers below.

  • How close are the devices to each other? (The Chromecast and Wi-Fi router) - I'm connected via ethernet less than a metre away from the router.
  • When did the problem start? - Within the last couple of weeks.
  • Has the Google TV Streamer 4K firmware been updated? - Yes, it's on the latest firmware.
  • Are you using an HDMI-certified 2.1 cable to connect the Google TV Streamer? - It's a high quality Belkin cable bought within the last 5 years, however I'm not sure if it's a 2.1 certified cable. Is this a requirement for the Google TV Streamer?

I can also confirm that a factory reset did not fix the issue.

Thanks.

Just to add - I've switched to an HDMI 2.1 cable and the problem persists.

Thanks.

Hello Lemmi,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. So let's explore some troubleshooting options.

  • Reboot your Wi-Fi router: Disconnect the Wi-Fi router from the socket and leave it unplugged for 2 minutes.

  • Try to use your Google TV Streamer 4K with another TV or connect the Google Chromecast to another HDMI port, and verify if the same behavior happens.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel

Try these fixes:

  1. Check CPU/GPU Usage – Close background apps using high resources.
  2. Update Graphics Drivers – Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters and update.
  3. Disable Hardware Acceleration – Found in browser/app settings.
  4. Adjust Power Settings – Set to High Performance in Power Options.
  5. Monitor Temps – Overheating can cause stuttering.
  6. Test Refresh Rate – Lower it in Display Settings.

If restarting helps, a driver or background process may be causing the issue. worldavatrpro.com
