cant mute volume on laptop when watching a movie

Mariah

I set up my new chromecast to watch Netflix movies from my laptop. Initially the volume wasn't working on my tv, so I followed a few youtube instructions and made changes to my laptop settings (I cant remember what!). As a result,  the volume on my tv is now directly mirroring the volume on my computer. That is, when I mute/turn down/turn up the volume on my computer, it mutes/turns down/turns the volume on the tv. When I am casting, the volume on my tv remote doesn't work! I'm not very computer savvy, so I am hoping someone may be able to give me instructions on how to fix this issue?

Hey there Mariah,

I apologize about the late response on this, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that volume issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, since I know that would bug me as well. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • Does this issue occur when casting from another website, such as YouTube?
  • Does this occur when casting from another device, such as a phone or tablet?
  • Are you watching downloaded Netflix movies, or off of the website itself?
  • What version of Google Chrome are you using?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
