Try these steps:

  1. Make sure your Chromecast is within 15 - 20 ft (4 - 6 m) of the Wi-Fi router if possible.
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your phone or tablet, if not already turned on.
  3. Turn off mobile/cellular data.
  4. Reboot your router. Most routers just require that you unplug the power source and then plug it back in to reboot.
  5. Reboot Chromecast by removing the power cable, then reconnect it.
  6. Reboot your phone or tablet.
  7. Make sure you're using the latest version of the apps you want to cast from, by checking your app store for any updates.
  8. Restart those apps.
    • Android: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the app.
    • iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the app.
  9. Turn Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone or tablet.
  10. Reopen the app(s) you want to cast from.

If none of the steps above help, factory reset your Chromecast and do setup again. Once setup, try casting from those app(s) again.

Are you using any proxies or VPNs on your phone? If so, turn those off?

Does it still work with other devices in your home?

no. all settings are the same.

now if i use phone or tablet in the bedroom, can connect or control chromecast in the living room, but can't do that in the living room.

weird 😅

Do you have the 1 router, or do you have a mesh system with multiple Wifi points?

Do you use Wifi extenders or repeaters at all?

Is a shared type Wifi where you need to login first or register devices to access the internet?

yes, it's a shared wifi. i have to login.

Then I don't understand how your Chromecast has ever worked, as it doesn't support those kinds of Wifi networks that require you to login first, known as captive portals. Maybe you can ask your apartment manager if there have been any recent changes? Did you have to register your Chromecast to get it to work perhaps?

If all else fails, there are a couple of possible solutions for this:

  1. Check with whoever manages your Wifi if they have a process to whitelist your device (if you haven't already done this previously). They do this by allowing the unique MAC address of the device. Not all providers will be setup do this however. In addition, even this may not work on some Wifi networks, as the administrator may have enabled a security feature called client isolation, which prevents different devices from communicating with each other (i.e. your phone communicating with your device).

  2. Although unsupported by Google, you can try to use a phone or tablet as a Wifi hotspot. However, this will then use your mobile data plan, which could be expensive for you depending on the data plan you have with your carrier. Note you will need 2 devices to set this up.
    • Turn on the Wifi hotspot feature on a phone or tablet. If you're not sure how to do this, refer to the manufacturer's support website.
    • Connect a second phone or tablet to that Wifi hotspot.
    • You can then use that second phone or tablet to setup your device and connect it to the Wifi hotspot on the first phone or tablet.

  3. If you're able to use  a wired network connection to connect to the network instead, you could invest in your own cheap router and connect your devices to that router instead.

really?but it was working perfectly before. i only had to login wifi on the day i moved in then my phone will automatically connect everytime. i didn't have to register the chromecast. I'll check with the management. thank you so much for your reply.

I'm afraid so, listed in the help centre here underneath incompatible networks, which has me puzzled as to why it's worked for you until now. It does make me think a recent change, so best to check with the management.

the management said they didn't change any setting but agreed to do something in the back end.

they mentioned something about bypassing the wifi login.

anyway, problem solved.
