"Couldn't sign in please try again

I cannot add Google TV Streamer to home app. When I try to add my Google TV streamer over Wi-Fi (2.4GHz or 5GHz) or Ethernet I can set it up until the point where I select the room and verify my identity. This appears to succeed on my phone but then it says "Signing on to Google TV Streamer with your Google account"where it hangs for a minute then says "Couldn't sign in please try again". If I activate with the remote it logs in yo my account and sets up successfully, except in Google home the tv will  be listed under my house but not a room, and when Igo to add it to a room i agree to terms, verify with pin.or fingerprint (only 2 options) then it says "Signing on to Google TV Streamer with your Google account"where it hangs for a minute then says "Couldn't sign in please try again".

I have cleared my cache, updated software, factory reset the router, and reinstalled my home app a half dozen times. There are little variations in messages along the way depending on how o try and connect, but in the end I always get to a couldn't sign in error in the home app, whether or not I've completed setup on the remote and am signed in on the streamer.

Just want to chime in and say I'm having the exact same problem with my Google Chromecast with Google TV device.  I've got it set up using the report, but I can't assign it to a room in the Home app because it gets that same "Couldn't sign in" error.  Hopefully, someone will have a real fix here.

Hi Folks,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand you're experiencing trouble finding your Google TV Streamer and your Google Chromecast with Google TV in your Google Home app after the setup, and you're receiving an error message, "Couldn't sign in, please try again later." I appreciate all your troubleshooting efforts in this situation. I'm glad to help you.

To further assist you, please answer the following questions:

  • What's the LED light status (solid or flashing white) of your Chromecast device? (You can visit this helpful article to check the Chromecast LED status light.)

  • What's the distance between the router and the Chromecast device?

  • Are you able to find the list of available Wi-Fi networks in your Google Home app?

  • Which phone are you using, Android or iOS?

  • Have you tried to use an alternative device, like a tablet or iPad?

Important: Double-check that the Wi-Fi router is plugged in and that the internet connection is stable before you proceed with the sign-in option.

Please let me know your findings.

Regards,

Byron

I have the same issue. Cannot get past it, and obviously google support is hard to get. Wifi works and the funny thing is that after remote setup the google account is visible in streamer, yet it fails to " log in" during setup. And streamer is missing from Home

Sounds like the exact same issue. I've been too busy to try again, but a community specialist did reach out so I'll try and get back to him.

I dunno, reset the streamer, uninstalled Home app, tried again but failed again. Then did the setup using remote and surprise got some new questions and agreements to accept etc and the whole setup process completed successfully. Streamer visible in Home, all good now. Don't know why.

Glad to hear it.  I tried again yesterday and had the same issues, same errors, I had already tried deleting the app and reinstalling it but tried again, went to my account.goohole.com and removed as many devices as I could...

I did get it working by setting it up with the remote while I had the can't login error still up on my home app. The combination of manual login while actively in the can't login screen on home resolved the error in app and let me add it to a room. One last quirk was there was still a ghost living room TV in the living room so I had to add it to the non existent family room, but I was able to move it later.
