App not getting camera notifications sometimes.

Hi,

Just wondering if other people are having this issue.  On some days I don't get any notifications from the Home app regarding the camera's at my house, and some other days it works fine.  It just seems to be random, not sure why some days it works fine and other days it doesn't.  When it doesn't I look and my status is set to Away so I know I should be getting the notifications as they are setup that way.  My presence settings are also correct.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Chucky44,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand you're not consistently receiving notifications from your Nest Camera, and you've noticed your status sometimes shows as away in the Google Home app. I appreciate the information shared. No worries, let's work together to get it resolved. To help with that, I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Camera do you have? Please visit the following article to find the model: Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells.
  • Is your Nest Camera detecting events?
  • If you have multiple Nest Cameras, are you experiencing the same notification issue with all of them?
  • Did you check the settings of the Home/Away feature?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,
Jonathan

  • What type of Nest Camera do you have? Please visit the following article to find the model: Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells.  I have 2 Nest Cam Outdoor camera's (not battery).  And I also have a wired doorbell.
  • Is your Nest Camera detecting events?  Yes, event are being recorded properly for all 3 camera's.
  • If you have multiple Nest Cameras, are you experiencing the same notification issue with all of them?  Yes, not getting any notifications for all 3 camera's.
  • Did you check the settings of the Home/Away feature?  Yes, everything is set properly.  When I open the app, my status is set to Away.
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far?  Yes, tried resetting presence settings, updating app to latest version.  Running app on iOS, and checked that app is running in background, location set to Always, etc.

Hi @Chucky44,

Thanks for your update. I appreciate the detailed information you shared.

Just to confirm, have you already tried the steps that Francisco provided? Also, let's try the following steps:

  • Please check if you receive notifications from your Nest Cameras using another phone.
  • Create an activity zone and ensure the notification settings are turned on.

@Francisco555, thanks for jumping in.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Jonathan

  • Please check if you receive notifications from your Nest Cameras using another phone.  Yes, seems to work fine on my wife's phone.
  • Create an activity zone and ensure the notification settings are turned on.  I have activity zones setup already and they are set properly for notifications.

Like I mentioned previously, some days it works fine and other days it doesn't.  Its not all the time.

Hi @Chucky44,

Thanks for getting back to me. Let's try these next steps:

  • Turn off all notification settings in the Google Home app, and then turn them back on.
  • Ensure notification permissions are allowed for the Google Home app in your phone's settings.
  • Check if your phone's operating system is updated.

Please keep me updated.

Regards,
Jonathan

Check app permissions

Confirm that the app has permission to:

Access notifications

Access the camera (if necessary)

Run in the background

2️⃣ Check notifications on the Android system

Go to Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Notifications

Make sure all notifications are enabled.

3️⃣ Check the camera settings

If it's a security or IP camera:

Check the camera app itself to see if motion or detection notifications are enabled.

Make sure the app is properly connected to the camera.

4️⃣ Check battery and power saving

Android can restrict notifications from background apps to save battery life.

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization and set the app to "Don't optimize."

5️⃣ Check the network connection

Without a stable connection (Wi-Fi or 4G/5G), notifications may fail.

Make sure the app and camera are properly connected to the internet.

6️⃣ Check for updates

Update both the app and camera firmware.

Update the Android system.

7️⃣ Check for conflicts with other apps

Security, antivirus, or battery management apps can block notifications.
