How do I fix “Problem connecting to cloud” error in google home app on ipad

jcgaskil
Community Member

I have the Google Home app on my iPad. I use it with my Sony Bravia google television. When I select the television on the app and then the settings (gear) the app returns “Problem connecting to cloud”.  Has anyone seen this before and how do I resolve it?  This issue also occurs on my iPhone.  I've tried the same steps on a Samsung app and while it doesn't return to the same error, it also does not take me to the cloud configuration page to enable adjustments to Ambient mode on the television.

Same problem

Same on two Sony Bravia TVs

I've seen this problem posted on numerous sites with nothing from Google to provide a resolution. I experience it as well on all my iOS devices and recently on an Android. I assume it is a configuration of my account but there is way I can find to "test" my cloud independently.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this, as I can imagine it has been an inconvenience. I would love to look into this further for you. Have you checked your Wi-Fi connection to make sure your devices are connecting to the correct channel if you have a dual band system? Also, a general reset of your devices could also clear out a lot of these connectivity concerns you may have.

Best regards,
Brad

These suggestions did not work, as I’m experiencing the same issues.

I verified they are both on the same router and channel. Both connected and both can access the internet separately. I did not reset the Television yet as I typically avoid this until a last resort.

No Brad. Factory reset doesn’t even help. Stop with the basic troubleshooting crap and address the issue already.

Nope that don’t work

Hi there,

We just want to check if you have seen our response posted above. Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we'll be locking the thread.

Best,

The problem remains. Please do not lock the thread as clearly others with Google TVs have the same issue. Thank you.

I have the same problem. Both my Sony Bravia TV with built in Google TV and my Sony Sound bar return the message, “Problem Connecting to Cloud” when I touch the gear settings icon in the Google Home App. It fails when using either my iPhone with IOS or iPad with iPadOS at 16.1.1. I have numerous devices on my network by different manufacturer’s all controlled by the Google Home App but only these two Sony Products fail.

For some reason, the Sony Sound Bar started working! I try selecting the gear (settings) in the Google Home App on both the Sony TV and the Sony Sound Bar periodically to see if there is any change. The Sony TV with Google TV still fails faithfully. I still get the “Problem Connecting to Cloud” message when I touch the gear icon. When I do that on the Sony Sound Bar now, it takes me to the settings screen like it should! I haven’t made any changes and I have no idea why the sound bar started working!

Same thing with my Chrome TV on a Sony Oled TV. Could this be a Sony issue?

Sony blames Google. Sony is using Google TV as an operating system to drive their television hardware and now both Google and Sony appear to be pointing fingers. I just got off a remote chat session with Sony Support because I now have an issue with the “Hey Google” function not responding to me. It acts like the built-in microphone is broken. I just got a Sony software update today and I was hoping the Google Home app issue that doesn’t allow me to get the proper response to touching the settings gear icon would just go away but it didn’t fix anything. I now have two problems that Sony is is looking to Google to fix!

I have the same issue on my Sony Bravia TV. Have had it for months...

I have to add that this issues appeared after a few months of use of my Sony Bravia. At the beginning it was working fine with the Google Home app and I had my google photos as screensaver in Ambient mode. One of these days I’ll factory reset the Bravia and let you know if this fixes the issue.

I just recieved a Sony A80 tv and I’m experiencing the same issue.

I contact Google and they’re blaming Sony…

The tv is connected to my Home app, however, clicking that Settings icon in the corner prompts a ‘problem with connecting to the cloud’ error. Very frustrating

Same issue!! Trying to get my Google Photos to appear in Ambient mode on my Sony Bravia. It worked fine until late this summer/early fall, then it just stopped working and "problem connecting to cloud" appears when I go to the gear icon as instructed. Google blames Apple, Apple blames Google, Sony blames Google. I blame Google. 😞IMG_7199.jpgIMG_7198.jpg

I also noticed this started mid-year.  When contacting Sony the tell me it is an issue with the Google cloud service.  Still no answer.  Very frustrating.

Hi folks,

Jumping in to see if you're still having concerns with your Chromecast with Google TV?

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Yes. No change in the behavior. I reset the television and reinstalled the home app on my phone but the problem is still present

That is the exact problem i am having as well. Any fix yet?

Yep, no progress yet.  Check it every day hoping either Google, Apple, or Sony fixes it.

Hey there,

Thanks for the response and I'll be happy to assist. May I know exactly what Nest devices you have? Also, for confirmation, the Chromecast with Google TV is fully linked to your Smart TV? The error "Problem connecting to cloud", is it only happening when using an iOS device?

Thanks,

Dan

I know your question wasn’t directed to me but thought I’d throw mine in for good measure.

Am having the problem with two new Sony Bravia Google TVs.  Both show “problem connecting to cloud” when using Google Home on mine or my wife’s and daughters iPhones. Interestingly, I pulled out an old Chromebook and loaded Google Home and the problem doesn’t exist.  It appears to affect iOS only (at least in my case)

Dan, fyi I’m in several groups around the web and it appears as if this is fairly widespread

I don’t understand why a “Nest” device is referenced here. My problem exists on my Sony Google TV and my iOS devices. I do not have any android devices to test it on. I have not other devices connected to the television.

What he said!!

I too have the Sony Bravia Google TV and am just trying to change the screen saver to my Google photos, which is done through the Google Home app, and I get the "problem connecting to cloud" message.

Hi all services work fine but when in Google home (iOS) I try to setup google photos to work with my Sony Bravia A90J “ambient mode” I get from the app the message “problems connecting to cloud try later”.  It did work until a few months ago, this is a recent issue.

Hi Dan- yes to the above. My chromecast is connected through my smart TV and this is an issue on my IOS device.

I don’t know what a  “community specialist” is but whoever they are,  they haven’t gone back through the many posts describing our concerns.  The problems are well documented with full descriptions about devices, apps and circumstances.  The problem still exists and has existed for some time!  I don’t see any need to repost when all that needs to be done is to read all previous entries!

I'm gonna try out an android emulator for Mac https://www.airdroid.com/remote-control/android-emulators-for-mac-windows/ and see if there the google home app shows the same issue

did the android emulator work for you?

Same issue with my Sony TV. Worked earlier in the year and now there’s a problem with connecting to the cloud. I already deleted the google home app as well as factory resetting the TV. Stuck in the same situation as everyone else on this thread.

Same issue here.
I tried restarting my TV (Sony Bravia), restart my iPhone, restart my router, all with the same result. There is a problem with the cloud.

No fix yet. Believe we’re still in the finger pointing loop (Google->Sony->Apple->Google->and so on)
