How do I fix “Problem connecting to cloud” error in google home app on ipad

jcgaskil

I have the Google Home app on my iPad. I use it with my Sony Bravia google television. When I select the television on the app and then the settings (gear) the app returns “Problem connecting to cloud”.  Has anyone seen this before and how do I resolve it?  This issue also occurs on my iPhone.  I've tried the same steps on a Samsung app and while it doesn't return to the same error, it also does not take me to the cloud configuration page to enable adjustments to Ambient mode on the television.

Any updates Jennifer? This issue seems to have a lot of users affected for a long time now.

Thanks!

I am also having the same issue. I just bought a Hiscene Google Tv today and I wanted to activate the “Ambient mode”. I don’t have a Nest or a Modem that is related to a google product. Just this app and my TV. When I click the gear it fails to connect to the cloud. Are they going to fix this??

Same problem. Doesn't seem to be an issue for us to trouble shoot.  Hoping for a fix.

I have been having this exact same problem with a Sony A80J and the home app on my iPhone.

I logged a support request with Google and gone through all the recommended troubleshooting they suggested. They told me it's a problem with the TV and I should contact Sony. When I said I tried with an old android tablet which allows me to access the ambient mode settings, they told me it was a problem with the iPhone and to contact Apple.

They really don't seem to want to deal with this issue.

My Hisense and Sony Bravia TV have the same issue Problem Connecting to Cloud error. Both of these used to work and my Hisense continues to at least show Google photos but my Sony doesn’t and there isn’t a way to make it stop playing that stupid screensaver music!!! This is beyond rediculous at this point.

Same Problem on a Sony Bravia X90J and yes I have tried all the basic troubleshooting that was suggested by the „Specialists“.

Sadly the workaround to enable Google Photos stopped working as well because of a seemingly related issue in which the Google Home App claims that it can‘t find any Google Photos Albums. (Probably because it can‘t connect to the cloud)

Having the same issues. Can’t connect to cloud and can’t keep the pictures as screen saver  on tv. Tried everything as suggested in here. Nothing worked! Just following to see if either google or Sony came out with the fix. Have Sony 80CJ.

I have the same issue with my Sony Bravia VU3 and my iPhone/iPad running iOS 16.3.1 vs Google Home v2.63.110

I am able to connect correctly using my old iPhone running iOS 12.5.7  vs Google Home v2.63.110

Looks like the issue sits on the Apple side of things…

Older iOS versions work - that's why it worked for a lot of us originally. It still works on my phone with iOS 15.6.1

Weird, my iPad with iOS 15.2 doesn’t work either…

I see some people saying that the problem is iOS and it works on Android, but that's not my case. In my Bravia X90J, none of both options work. I've tried iPhone, iPad and a Google Pixel, all of them updated to latest OS versions and latest Home app versions, with no results. "Problem connecting to cloud" error is always there.

Same issue here. We all have iPhones and iPads and google home will not let me change the settings on my two Sony TVs and my tcl android tv. I can adjust the volume, use the remote but it refuses to let me change any settings on either of the TVs. Everything else I own works fine and has no issues connecting to their cloud server. Hell I can’t even remove the TVs from my home.

So confirmation, it has nothing to do with Sony, as this is spread across all android TVs.

all TVs worked fine prior to what ever google

broke.

Same issue here with my Hisense  with Google TV and iPhone 12 Pro.

Pretty sure we have established that the issue is related to anyone that has an apple device and an android tv/chrome cast.

This issue is still not fixed. Is there any update @JenniferV ? Just bought a new TV and cant have a custom photos screensaver? Pretty basic feature and very disappointed it's not working.

I got same issue with my Toshiba Google TV. Read from above many of you used Sony. If my Toshiba also have same issue, so its Google problem, not the manufacturers.

Just checking in to say I also have the problem where I can’t change the settings of my Sony Bravia TV from the Google Home app. I can connect to the TV, but when I go to the settings I get the “Can’t connect to…” error. Reason I want to go to the settings is to configure surround sound when casting to my TV. Would be great if Google can fix this on short notice. This seems to be going on for way too long looking at the first reports in this topic.

I'm having this same issue with my Hisense U8H and iPhone 12 Pro running 16.3.1. It's been occurring ever since I purchased the TV. I've gone through factory reseting the TV, deleting my entire Google Home and starting a new one, even making a new Google account and trying that. Still the "Problem connecting to cloud" issue with my TV. Hisense pushed an update today to the TV and I had hope it might fix it but still having the same exact problem.

@JenniferV can you confirm this is still being looked into by engineers? There are lots of threads on this that go inactive without any resolution and then get locked. It's an obvious issue thats been effecting many users with no real solution in-sight.

I have a TCL using Google TV and have the same issue. Im trying to remove the ability of the TV to respond to Hey Google commands. It's not anywhere else Ive looked at so i was hopeful its on the settings in the Home app but I get the problem connecting to cloud error on my iphone. An android phone connected to the same google phone says "some settings are not available right now" when i go to settings but it shows the room and home selection setting and the remove/unlink.

Hey all, surprisingly today I checked my TV settings via Home app in both iOS and iPad OS and IT’S WORKING. With latest app version 3.0.111. I’m in the Public Preview program too.

My Sony Bravia X90J didn’t receive any software update for months so it seems it was Google’s fault. Remote control still sometimes saying “Full remote unavailable” but restarting the app sometimes I got it to work. Anyway, TV settings are now FULLY working and I can edit Ambient Mode

Go update your app mates!

Yes, i can confirm this always.

And so all along - as our gut feeling told us - it was a google-ended issue. 🙃 we did it guys! (I think, lol)

So glad we did it and the noise we made here in this post was for something 🙂

Free at last! Mine is working as well:)

Thanks for the heads up. Confirmed it is now working on both my Sony Bravia and my Hisense!

Sure enough I checked my Hisense U8H after your comment and it's now working too. I'm also on the Public Preview. My TV also didn't receive any updates so seems like it was definitely a Google Home issue. Lets just hope it stays that way.
