Nest App Re-authentication required

GeeI

Since I migrated to Google login for Nest I have to re-authenticate approx 50% of the time via Google. I wondered if there was a setting that I had wrong or something I could tweak to prevent this. Although it's only an extra 4 clicks it's still an annoying process to go through to simply boost the hot water (or whatever I want to do in the Nest app). Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hey there,

Thanks for confirming that. Let’s turn off your 2-Step Verification.

Here’s how:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app .
    • At the top right, tap your profile picture or initial > Google Account. If you don't use Gmail, go to https://goo.gle/35BxQSE.
  2. At the top, tap Security.
  3. Under "Signing in to Google," tap 2-Step Verification.
  4. Select Turn off.
  5. A pop-up window will appear to confirm that you want to turn off 2-Step Verification. Select Turn off.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

Hi GeeI,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for the delayed response here. Let’s check — do you have an Android phone or iPhone?

Thanks,

Hi there,

It's me again. I want to make sure you're all good — how did the steps go?

Hi JT,

Yes done that now and it worked! After a few days though I re-enabled 2-step verification and it's now back to as it was before. I felt I needed to re-enable 2SV as this covers my overall Google account not just Nest app and wanted to keep the security.

Just annoying why the Nest app needs the secondary verification so often

Thanks for your help!

Hey there,

Awesome, glad to hear! Since your Nest account is migrated to Google, the two-step verification work in general. You may check this article to learn more about it. As we got our resolution here, I'm going to mark this thread as complete. I'll be locking this thread if we won't hear back from you again in 24 hours. Should that happen, feel free to create a new one if you have more questions or have other concerns in the future.

Best,

JT
